got a shocking ride by Pat Smullen last week in Leopardstown. You need to look at the race yourself to see what I mean. This is what the lazy race reader had to say"Settled in mid-division, 7th halfway, ridden and no impression from under 2f out, kept on one pace".   It was surprising that no one else saw the way this horse was ridden, particularly the stewards. In any event,I decided to look at his form and I noted that he once ran off a rating of 106 and  last week he ran off 87. I then looked at his most recent runs and I wasn't particularly impressed by the way he was ridden. I looked at his pedigree and I saw that he is a half brother to Media Puzzle and Refuse to Bend. I then looked at his entries and I see he is entered in the Ascot Stakes (Handicap) running off a mark of 86. It will be tight whether he gets into the race but I reckon the clever Dermot Weld and Dr. Lambe are up to something?

Well handicapped potentially but trip has to be a massive worry considering the furthest he's won over is 12 furlongs?

Good post The Gotchee and agree that the synopsis of that last race isn,t very accurate(which isn,t infrequent) and he is better than that run.
Also i agree he has a decent mark, not sure he has shown a lot to date though.Going back to last year i,d imagine he was primed for Galway where he was behind Shadow Eile, not bad form in itself but a little disappointing on the day,run after that wasn,t bad with a 4th in a big handicap where he had decent ones behind.
The race at Ascot is 6f further than he has raced so far on the flat(not sure i,d read a lot into his maiden hurdle),he,ll get into the race alright but will be up against some fairly smart nh staying types with Mullins,Henderson,Pipe among some represented, looks a very competitive race.
Won,t put you off as possible with that mark and likely to improve for the longer trip, he looks an interesting runner at a probably decent price. GL

Was it a shocking ride by Pat Smullen or was it a job well done,he was on the inside travelling well between the 4 and 3 furlong pole when Smullen just sat up in the saddle, you could claim he was slightly baulked although I don't believe that.Having lost his position he started to make ground again as he turned in when once again Smullen sat up in the saddle and let him amble home.

I followed this lad during his three year old career,he ran second in what appeared then a right Curragh maiden,he won his miden in Tipperary and later ran in the Irish Derby but was a overall a big disappointment,he seems to me very one paced and an out an out stayer, the trip wouldn't bother me.

Good luck The Gotchee and well spotted.

Pity, agree with the wildman, distance is no obstacle to this horse and that race looked a good slot for him. The winner of that race at Leopardstown Cul Baire is some prospect for hurdling, surprised Bolger hasn't been able to sell him yet.

Who the graduate?, all he does is stay, he might be the slowest flat horse in Ireland, watching him break his maiden at Tipp was one of the most painful experiences of my life, all it does is plod. My worry would be that 21f would be too sharp Kav!! Weld has always seemed to rate him though and I don't think he would've sold Lambe a dud, there's a day in this fella as the lads above have pointed out.
