Thanks Mr Mischief . But if that website and related is to go by , no wonder names like Arkles sire slip through nets .
Reference Archive , cant believe that owners did not know the implications of their naming their horse after Arkles sire . If they are unaware , bigger fools they .

I here what you are saying Kelly but the list of preserved names must surely end somewhere(it's long enough as you can see) Sires names are inbounds imo, it's their offspring that make them special after all. Without being overly harsh on the owners it's conceivable they were raising a flag to salute Arkle's legacy here as opposed to being wilfully ignorant.

Archive has been used a number of times already with USA JPN and now GB beside him.
He is not a household name as far as I am aware in as much Cajetano or Village Star are hardly relevant to Beef Or Salmon or Kauto Star.
Arkle might be a legend but his dad is hardly Northern Dancer. He did not sire any other Gold Cup winners as far as I know and is largely irrelevant.

I am all for tradition but Archive would be unknown to all bar Arkle enthusiasts. He retired to stud a maiden albeit a well bred one and sired a few chasers and Arkle but hardly worth preserving what is a common enough word.

Just think that someone in the corridors of power who sanction horse naming would have twigged the connection in the name . But who knows what goes on in those corridors , surely they have a data base with every horses name in it since the Byerly Turk . If not they should have , and GB , Fr , USA etc are only after tags .

The other point Distant View is that Archive was Arkles sire , mentioning Beeforsalmon and even Kauto in the same breath is tantamount to heresy , people have been burned at the stake or beheaded ( if you were living in England ) for a lot less .
Know its a minor point , and as some have pointed out few would know Arkles breeding . But to those of us who saw him in the flesh he is the forever horse . So reckon his da should be also in a special place , along with Bright Cherry .

Didn't twig that one , Distant . Henry's ancestors would have known all about the turbulent "losing your head " time in England too , so he might have paid attention . Cheers .

As an aside to Archive , and in relation to his famous progeny , the first Arkle "appreciation society" in Ireland to my knowledge was set up by some guys in Carnlough , Co Antrim , operating out of the Londonderry Arms Hotel , where manys a good meal I had . They had contact with the Dreaper stable too as far as I knew . Knew a couple of those involved , but have lost track of them . Next time I am up that way ( which should be soon actually ) I must call into that hostelry and see what the craic is .
