talk to owner/trainer/jockey

or Keen Leader or anyone else because I am not capable of forming an opinion.

Jockeys are shrewd tipsters-always see the bigger picture and would never shaft you.
Report kavvie May 18, 2013 1:53 PM BST
what age are you roadrunner?im backing horses and generally gambling for 40 yr. with varying degrees of success and failure.you seem to be a bit innocent about the game in general.
jockeys claim 3/5/7lbs because they are inexperienced.id rather have a top jockey any time if you need strong handling
well handicapped?!?..how does one determine that?
price 5/1 to 25/1??????!?..what if trainer lets you know"today is the day we planned for a year?"..and its 4/1?do u resist?
ets etc etc

Capable of forming an opinion on horses but am not capable of making a profit backing or laying them over time based on this opinion.

The only people I see making a few quid in this most challenging of hobbies are those that are connected.  Hence I would only have a significant bet on a horse if I had access to the above.

Ozy get Gruss.

Yes Kavvie- all us fools missed the one by Montjeu in the handicap yesterday-only 400 of them in training.
Report Ozymandius May 18, 2013 2:02 PM BST
So is Gruss your secret weapon in 'forming an opinion' dj?
Report dj876 May 18, 2013 2:05 PM BST
Yep that's it ozy,I discuss racing on here -don't come on here to get involved in your childish arguments ,so jog on and get ready for the highlight of your weekend-the Eurovision or learn how to delete Bookmarks of your laptop for your "lady friend"

their was a tip the other day for Nichols canyon, did you notice the winner was ridden by a very good claimer 5lbs.
and on sires was far superior to the horse you all bet on, and was ridden to take adavantage of that claim.
you fail to realize that I brought to your attention, authorized was not a very good sire presently, few
of you have over looked that fact, clever person would of checked again all the sires, and realized that
montjue was the best, by a long stretch. was the first time ive looked at that sire.

in a race like that a claimer on board can be a game changer, so proved to be the case. im still learning about
racing, more interested in the bloodlines of horses and pedigrees, that's the future way of finding winners.
and improving ones knowledge of form. im not advocating only betting claimers, just the fact that a claimer
can add an extra edge to your bet sometimes. best way to learn is to teach others, so ive been toldCool

suppose could update this, add another 20 or 30 variables, now my knowledge has improved. still think these are
your bread and butter filtersWink

forgotten about this list, need to write this down on paper so I can remember it again.

noticing lots of horses that are gelded now, when reading the form, don't know if that's one of the new extras on racing post.

rule 1 still holds true about apprentice jockeys, worth checking out top track jockeys sometimes, looking for
bigger priced runners their on for the exotic bets.

would add in pedigrees now, has a part to play in the multiple bets, especially on weekends.

might have to run some of my bets through this stringent procedure next weekHappy

1. jockey claim 7lbs / 5lbs / 3lbs ....everyone knows this
2. course specialist .... obvious to everyone
3. distance specialist .... obvious again
4. race fit + winning form + wins fresh .... winning form equals low odds
5. top rated +  well handicapped + top speed ..... low odds again.  Stevie Wonder could pick it
6. price 5/1 to 25/1 ..... starting to talk sense
7. notebook horse + recent winner + form pick ..... journalists have to pick something
8. draw advantage + going ..... two separate things, but can combine.  you need about 20 years stats minimum
9. older horses are usually stronger 5/6/7/8 year olds  .... in a weight for age it is adjusted.  in a handicap i don't bet
10. only maximum bet when plans signal victory .... no.  bet bigger at higher odds.

hit 7/8 ticks on that list they always win.

My ideas:
I like a horse that finished about 7th or higher in its last race. You get great odds.  Punters like 11111.
Compare the class of this race with the class of past races for all runners.  I like horses beaten in higher class races.
The horses must have won at this class or gone very close at this class or higher.
Ignore horses with excuses.  Some horses have a lifetime of excuses.  (Cracksman; Hawk Wing).
It is not a game of picking winners.
Know something other don't.  Unfortunately, this involves much work.
Tips, inside information, hearing rumours, people in the know .... is rubbish.
Report peckerdunne September 18, 2017 3:02 PM BST
And stop backing 4/1 shots at 7/4.
