just wondering what exactly his role is in w mullins operation.he seems to buy a lot of the horses especially from France and is seen by willies side on many race days too.in fact he often seems to be the one giving jockeys instructions n such like before and after races.seems a quiet enough chap round the track.is he assistant trainer there r whats the story?

I think he is officially an assistant but it's not really in the traditional sense of the term. I would imagine he has a considerable equity interest in the operation.

Assistant trainer in Ireland is a very loose term.

Surely he is the agent buying the horses. goes racing helping saddle up etc speak to owners but he is the agent advising Willie which horses to buy -not doing a bad job!!! although Mullins would prob win with a donkey at the moment!

He is worth his weight in gold, this guy.

There must be huge demand trying to lure his services to a few prominent owners.  Perhaps he does have some equity stake/retainer to persuade him to stay put?

I am sure he is well looked after and rightly so. The big player down there at the moment has given him access to a large warchest.

Hes from the north. Rode as amateur & was an unsuccessful trainer. Dont think he has any part in the training. But he seems to have a huge part in the sourcing & buying.

willie comes across as clever enough. You would think he'd have a good enough brain for sourcing and buying and wouldnt need someone to do it.
but i suppose with so many horses he cant do everything.
