only joking, do pigs fly?, could you imagine the holier than though uproar from every trainer, jockey and owner if these penalties were introduced in Ireland, screaming blue murder about their civil rights and threatening libel, oh I can only dream of such a day, never going to happen when vested interests are the dominant force behind Irish racing and its regulators!.

THE Australian Racing Board has released new iron-fisted penalties to deal with racing's cheats.
The ARB yesterday announced minimum penalties for a range of offences including the bicarb tubing of horses close to race day, jockey betting and race fixing.
Trainers found guilty of tubing horses have escaped with as little as a fine in the past but under new rules the offence carries a minimum 12-month disqualification.
Trainer Con Karakatsanis was yesterday disqualified for nine months by the Australian Racing Board over his intention to illegally tube top sprinter Howmuchdoyouloveme during the spring carnival at Flemington.
Race fixers, whether trainer, jockey or anyone else licensed under the rules, will be disqualified for a minimum of five years.
Jockeys found betting on horses, or owning them, face two years' disqualification and trainers found to have given a horse a prohibited substance face a minimum ban of three years.
ARB chief executive Peter McGauran said the days of the token penalty were over.
"The days of the slap on the wrist are gone," McGauran said yesterday.
"We don't want these people in racing, we want them weeded out of the industry.
"We have never had minimum penalties for these sorts of offences before.
"The penalties announced send the strongest signal yet to offenders that they will pay a heavy price for cheating the system - this is especially the case for repeat offenders."
The penalties are part of the industry's crackdown on drug cheats, in tandem with greater drug testing.
McGauran said the tens of millions of dollars spent on ensuring racing's integrity was essential to retaining punter confidence.
"Integrity is the cornerstone ... and is the foremost priority for racing authorities," he said.

Tubed horses were horses who had a cut inserted in their windpipe to aid their breathing,used to be many at old point to points and the noise they made was incredible.

Tubing is used to get supplements/medicine into the body quicker than putting it in feed.

The ozzies have really got their act together in the last few years.....Brisbane was as bent as hell for 3 decades and only a few years ago they began testing and banning drug use in greyhound racing.

your reply is also correct wildmanfromborneo .....it WAS known as tubing , they inserted a tube into the horse to help with its breathing .....
Wildman is correct also, way i used to see it was an open hole at the top of horses chest, near throat(?) surrounded by a circle of rubber(?).

I think it is now banned on the cruelty level,they used to be called roarers,the current meaning as kindly explained by GANT is administering what is colloquially known as a milkshake to a horse via a tube.
Nothing wrong with tubing to help a horse breath and it's a fairly common and simple procedure carried out by a vet.
The tubing case in Australia is different supplements/medicine were tubed down a horses neck by a trainer......a horse does not gag when a pipe is placed down it's neck, you can push it all the way into it's stomach...........a bit like Rocketfingers (so kingrat and ngu reckon).

kavvie , i'll try and help , it was possible in heavy or loose ground , for it to sometimes clog up the windpipe , if by chance it got stuck there ...You're right , part politics had it done ....
Wildman....It's not to administer milkshakes but I'm sure some do...90% of the time it's used to get legal substances/medicines into the animals system quickly. If it's placed in the food like normal it can take ages to work or the animal may be a picky eater.
Workrider......Paul Nicholls hobdays nearly all his horses.
