Any views on Clondaw Court's chances in this?  Thought Old Kilcash was the real deal.  Its run the last day at Leopardstown was to bad to be true.  Where to now for him?

Richters..What did you think of Pipes Red Sherlock? Out of Lady Cricket looked very good on debut, although carrying a handy enough weight on day due to allowances . Running both wide(in search of better ground)and freely throughout he skated away to a 23 length win.

sorry for intruding oufies pal , i layed this on its debut to my cost , it was very impressive and all the right noises are been made about it by david pipe...the dam was high class , so one to keep on the right side of , to their credit the english now seem able to produce a bumper horse worth its place in the champion bumper , a few other across the water showing some decent form , so we might not have it all our own way come march....

Agree Workrider re the English and bumpers.Time was when they crawled for all but the last two furlongs then sprinted home. No pace to most of the races and when thrown in at the deep end (Chelt/Aintree bumpers)were usually found out big time. Taken more seriously these days to be sure.

dear child of mine,

as a self professed rep of tallamaia, the currency of your information has the same value as monopoly money to me.

it does not matter to me who wins the cheltenham bumper. fans of golantilla may be somewhat taken aback by the refernce you made that patrick said willie choose to decline to buy.

for the record, as i was involved at a distance, in proceedings, willie did eventually decline, not because he did not like the horse, just he felt he was getting too expensive. willie was in fact the underbidder and told me he loved the horse. sean o brien has and will confirm to anyone that willie bid into the 300s.

and these previews so far out from the festival as just a joke, so much can happen in the next few weeks.

Questions x 2 for Keen Leader.....
(1). Whose bid was the final bid at the attempted sale of Golantilla in England,  ?
(2). What tax band does a sale of a horse like Golantilla come under, ?
Report keen leader February 14, 2013 1:32 PM GMT
i dont see the relevance of the two questions
(1) horse was a last minute entry at sale, won on sunday, entered late monday, rush job to organise to get there, turns up looking like he had swam across the irish sea. willie wanted to buy him, but was at home, kirk and jacqui were repping him and because the way he looked they were afraid to kick on. frank b also wanted him, between them they bid to 180, a fresh air bid made it 190, reserve 200, no sale.

(2) if i buy a winner of a bumper today for 100k, in two days time i find he has jumped out onto the road and suffered a fatality, am i entitled to claim a tax rebate for my misfortune?. is there a tax band which covers this?.
Report Tolmi February 14, 2013 1:47 PM GMT
As far  I am aware once a horse is sold having been in training all proceeds are tax exempt.

kl,
I know Jay's question about the tax rate was probably spurred by some agenda or other but it is possible that these pointing sales are taxable?

probably depends if the taxman can establish a "trade" and previous winning form (of the owner/trianer) might be one criteria. I think there's blurred line as to what is tax-free in racing these days and pointing muddies the waters a bit.

Sometimes the Revenue can be a law unto themselves and i have seen industry insiders paying tax on what might be regarded generally as exempt racing profits (i.e. he doesn't believe in the tooth fairy!).
Report Tolmi February 14, 2013 4:08 PM GMT
Could you clarify what might constitute exempt raicng profits that you have seen people paying tax on?
Report RoyalAcademy February 14, 2013 4:23 PM GMT
Tolmi,
let me put it this way: generally, both race winnings and profit from selling racehorses is exempt from tax. A serious windfall for an individual involving one of the foregoing was taxed on inspection by Revenue on the basis that he was involved closely in the industry and therefore had some edge or other over the hobby owner. The guy paid up without demur-was a bitter pill but appealing didn't appeal at the time. He might have won the appeal (at significant expense) but he settled for a quieter life. I think that certain earnings/winnings/sales proceeds are now less clearcut and selling on a winning pointer, for example, might be regarded as taxable by revenue.
Report Tolmi February 14, 2013 4:33 PM GMT
By windfall do you mean proceeds of a sale of a horse in training? The only way I could see that being taxable would be if the seller involved was a trainer or something similar.I always have a difficulty with Revenue deemed something to be taxable i.e. profit from a trade in one instance while declaring it to be a hobby if loss making.
Report RoyalAcademy February 14, 2013 4:59 PM GMT
agreed but the purpose of my original post was to suggest that taxation of certain "racing" profits (normally deemed exempt) can be targeted by revenue and it's hard to escape from their clutches if they feel they have a pay day. I'd go so far as to say this approach could also be adopted if a punter proved himself a regular "professional" winner.

Keen Leader is probably the most respected forumite here but his comments on this thread are unworthy of him.
ChildOfMine2 is kindly giving us the lowdown on what's being said at these previews and somehow Keen Leader took some of it personally, the comment that  seems to have irked Keen Leader
" Patrick said Willie could have bought Golantilla but chose to decline "
Keen Leader then gives the story involving the sale of Golantilla which I accept but that statement of ChildOfMine2 is compatible with that as declining to buy is the same as being outbid.

ChildOfMine2 is doing the forum a service and I hope he keeps it up.

I agree with your 09.35 post today wildman, and I too am somewhat disappointed with KL.

In fact KL says that he was involved at a distance, well it must have been some distance if he (KL) is not aware of the pertinence of the second questio I posed to him earlier.
From my own information I can say KL is most likely correct with his answer to my first query. That 'fresh air' bid was just that and probably was noted Laugh

Good man tolmi your answer 14/02/13 at 16.33 is most relevant in this instance........

my imput on this thread was to refute an implied  suggestion that willie mullins did not want golantilla, he did, not at the eventual sale price.

what did irk me, is that the messenger from the goat with the quote, is on the payroll at tallafornia, like many other covert posters on this forum. while it is deemed necessary to drum up antepost interest in the festival by posting where convenient, none of them have the balls to comment on the NEWROSS episode. lets all ignore the elephant in the room as long as we get our weekly wage mentality. reposition them back into the early 1930s and many of them would have lived happily under the third reich regime, such is their attitude.
Report wildmanfromborneo February 15, 2013 12:14 PM GMT
I was originally going to ask what tallamaia was and I am still not sure but presume it is something to do with the headquarters of a bookmaking chain.
I think the statement on Golantilla meant he was simply outbid don't think there was anything implied.
I think we would all like to know about the New Ross episode maybe someone with liathroidi will come on and tell us.

There are some issues with its wind. I don't believe they are major but they were enough to prevent him being sold for very tasty money to a major owner and he is now in the ownership of a syndicate as I understand it. He may well be suited to a flatter track and I don't like him for Cheltenham, but given the enthusiastic owners he will probably line up on day 2.

(2). What tax band does a sale of a horse like Golantilla come under, ?
