Surely it's time for a black pope i would think this is akin to say a prem club signing a new Asian player to tap into the far east market. It's 15/8 the best i see for an African pope although a black North american candidate would be a good call to if there is one. Maybe one of the devout Catholics or one of our many right winged Christian we seem to have would like to give an opinion on the market.

I don't think a black pope will be allowed. They say that will be the end of the world. Probably 50/1 in the betting would be the most fancied candidate.
Report workrider February 11, 2013 6:51 PM GMT
sadly you again show yourself up coco....you really shouldn't be allowed near a computer .....hello is that the vatican ....well i'm just ringing to let you know that you really should have a black pope next time....well apart from me getting 15/8 with  pp...i think you should have a good look at voting in a black pope...i mean even the premiership clubs are now signing black players ..so what have you to lose ...i might even be tempted to drop a few euro into the collection plate come sunday ..email me at coco.nitwit .com....p.s. if its black smoke does that mean you've elected one.....

Maybe its time for a Pope Joan . Not sure what the rules and regulations are before being eligible for election , probably the only one they are worried about is celibacy , not sure how relevant celibacy is for spiritual decision making .  Nooky never clouded my judgement .

POPE ROCKETFINGERS has a good ring to it imo.....one thing for sure there would be no fear of him breaking the celibacy rule................NAP

Cardinal Christoph Schönborn of Vienna is a good bet at 33/1. He was considered just a little too young last time, and he has the look of a Pope. There is also very good Spiritual reasons to believe this man has a great hope of being next Pope. Is there going to any market on betfair?
Report rock piper February 13, 2013 11:12 PM GMT
Christoph Sconborn was tipped in the Irish Times yesterday by an RTE theologian and didn't  even feature in the betting until that article. I wouldn't touch the 15/8 about the next pope being African since one of the contenders Nigerian, Francis Arinze (9/1) who was  overlooked last time is now too old (80) to be considered given what happened to Benedict, he also has voodoo influences on his sires and dams side and cannot therefore  be a serious contender when you consider he is marooned with an ecumenical brief.
If you want an African then now is the time to bet like men, because Peter Turkson looks a shoe in, he is young at 64, and has black type in the following congregations,

Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.[9] Within the Roman Curia, Turkson is also a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, the Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church and, since 4 March 2010, the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses.[10] On 12 June 2012 Cardinal Turkson was appointed a member of the Congregation for Catholic Education

He bred in the purple a by Methodist Minister out of a Catholic Mum, though there is East African muslim influences on his sires side (Swahili is his native tounge). He is a populist and popular, hugely charismatic and has near superstar status in Ghana, he is also a vatican insider who is most concerned with the issues the church faces in secular europe and its export of Godlessness, which will do him no harm with the Euro conservative wing, the only blot on his copybook was a moment of rudeness to muslims that cast doubts on his ecumenical credentials.

If you do take the 9/2, it might be time to get in the cocaine and hookers when you collect. Forget the black pope and the end of the world that was Nosterdamus he is the Farringdon of the Morning star of religous tipsters, our own St Malachy who is the pricewise of that profession, has presdicted the last 112 popes and he has this to say about this election.

"In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman (as he is known in Ghana), who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and thedreadful Judge will judge the people. The End."

You might also like to know that the name of Turkson's native village mah'lipacubmbwamwitu translates into Home of the Wolf Cub in English.

First past the post in a secret ballot, although the alleged details of the ballots that led to the election of PJP II were leaked to the Italian press. In that election there were two strong candidates from seperate wings of the church, it became clear that neither could make enough votes so  Karol Józef Wojtyła was brought in as a compromise candidate to ensure unity, that is why outsiders have such a good record in papal elections, which brings us to Christoph Sconborn (68), a prince of the old Austrian nobility as well as a prince of the church but relatively obscure for all that, best known for being a student and friend of Benedicts, age is probably on his side but his connections tell against him, such is the fear of dynasticism, it is not for nothing that the Italians say "first a fat pope then a lean pope"

Schonborn tipped up here in the IT http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2013/0212/1224329950094.html
