Surprising decision but looking at it more fluidly, the chap is a good rider and is young. Best of luck to him!!

He is not a good rider but Barry Connell seems to be losing his head, spending way over the odds for horses using second rate trainers,he seems to be acting out the role of Brewster in Brewsters Millions.
Report rubyisgodinthesaddle January 29, 2013 8:23 PM GMT
Not sure how you can say he is a not a good rider wildman, he has not got the horses.

We see how he gets on with proper horse flesh underneath him.

Good move, Gordon should be chuffed that he will have this man on board from now on for a dickie jumper like Mount Benbulben.

Backers of Golantilla will also no doubt be topping up for the Bumper.

Good horses improve jockeys and I am normally a defender of jockeys but he is a poor chase jockey,he isint a natural and is poor at presenting his horses at fences. His mother naturally enough has given him plenty of rides on good horses and much as I admire his bravery he has not excelled.

He pretty much killed one of Seamus Mullins the other year at Plumpton when I was there.  Plenty better jockeys out there IMO and he's a negative when getting on one for me.

Could he not have got Bryan Cooper or even someone like Mark Enright or Emmett Mullins if the job is too small for Cooper.
Report Distant View January 29, 2013 9:39 PM GMT
Incredible decision by Connell as Mullins is not within striking distance of the better young riders out there.

April fools day come early for 2nd time this month thanks to barry connell.
Report Bigwillystyle January 29, 2013 10:47 PM GMT
hahaaha.  Barry Connell is losing the plot.  He is one of the worst chase jockeys i have ever seen.  Looks like falling off or decking a horse at most fences.  Nearly as bad over hurdles.  Cannot see a stride.  Could be scary watching Mount Benbulben for the rest of the season.

How much money is involved? is he a paid retainer? any one any ideas...
Report simply perfect January 30, 2013 9:47 AM GMT
cannot understand why he feels the need to pay him a retainer, not as if hes in demand.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 30, 2013 9:50 AM GMT
Naturally Meanness Personified would think its about money, its not.
It's some opportunity for Danny Mullins although it will probably be too big for him,Huddys I wouldn't be too worried about the bumper as I think he is a far better flat jockey.

Barry Connell should have ridden his own horses today. I'm sure they would have finished closer.
