stats are very poor for horses carrying big weights wr

Its true the stats do favour the lower weighted but its far from inconcievable that a welter burden can prevail, in 97 Couldn't be Better carried 12st to victory as did Bob Treacy in 99, in 2000 Micko's Dream carried 11st7 so too did Siegemaster a couple of year ago.
This Medical Card interests me for Meade, it won a decent Grade 2 novice last year, hasn't shown much in 3 runs since, has had one run this season back in November, and is now thrown into the deep end against some seasoned performers, he's inexperienced I know but he was officially rated 141 after his grade 2 win, now rated 130, ground wouldn't be a worry won a novice chase on heavy at Limerick, speculative ew for me. |

i have been attending thyestes day for more than 30 years and my one stat for the race that stands isout, to avoid at all costs horses who previously have not run in a handicap chase.
only once in my timeframe has a handicap chase debutant won the race, that was the mare be my belle, who apart from being a course specialist, had in fairness placed in her 3 previous chases starts in graded races. if my stat holds up, the 3 to instantly forget about, all never having run in a handicap chase before are, 1-son amix, 2- the westerner boy, 3- toon river. |

the other 2 imponerables for today
1- bog warrior......will he stay 3 miles....what sort of cat and mouse race will it be between walsh and russell?. 2- time please, second fav in the poor maiden hurdle. no o grady winner since mid november, the stable on outside appearance looks a victim of the recession...is this a play or lay....the one that beat it at limerick, ran to its mark of 109 yesterday. a 109-115 performance here may be enough....interesting stat on this race is that the jockey on the jolly here, bell weir, mickey butler, despite hailing from kilkenny has never ridden at winner at the track, although as only 2 of his past course rides have started at single digit odds, it may not be fair to play it against the jockey. |

For me Zaidpour will take all the beating and if Bog warrior does manage it he would be a serious player for the World hurdle. The thyestes looks particularly difficult and will be a race i will throw a few darts at some big priced horses

BOG WARRIOR LOOKS SUPERSTAR ON THIS GROUND OVER HURDLES AND HE WILL TAKE THIS ON WAY TO WORLD HURDLE IF GROUND STAYS SOFT AT CHELT

Todays race will suit Zaidpour more than Leopardstown at Christmas, he is going right handed for one. There are only 5 runners and it could be a slowly run race, i am of the opinion that Zaidpour is not the strongest stayer over 3m, yes he won this race last year but that was run at a crawl and at Christmas in a proper run race Monksland outstayed him, that in time may turn out to be top class form but as it is i'm not sure he wants an end to end gallop over 3m (which looks unlikely today)

I have my doubts about Son Amix being a genuine stayer at the trip.Granted he has won over it but that was in a slowly run small field race.Gowran today will be truly run and a tough test.I can see him travelling well and trading shorter than his SP in running but failing to get home.

Extraordinary that Willie Mullins seemed not to try and win the Thyestes withdrew all his horses that had a chance and ran a horse that they felt wouldnt get round.

'Top drawer" Mozoltov is Cheltenham bound
Mozoltov has been doing good work at home and I've been waiting for a nice race to get him out instead of taking on one of our own. I didn't think he'd be taking on as good a bunch as these and he has to go into 'the top drawer'. I'd imagine we're looking for the Supreme Novices hurdle with him and he can only be better on better ground and Ruby said he wasn't at home on that ground today. W P Mullins, trainer. |
