Been meaning to write this for a while.

I went to Leopardstown 1 day over Christmas to see my friends ex horse Jezki running. Backed it at 7/4for a tiny amount (no money) and was jsut delighted for the owner etc.. Was looking the race up afterwards and I note the bookmakers bet to over 140% on the race off-course and the biggest price it ever showed was 6/4.
I was at the track and you couldn't lay the horse at less than 13/8.

We are all used to big percentages for handicaps and big runner maidens where most bookies will tell you they can't lay the outsiders anyway but over the last 12-18 months the carve up of the graded races has continued apace off course.
The on course Irish Joes always bet hard in the graded races as they know they have a chance and most horses are trying anyway but sending betting % to the shops off 130% in 6 runner races means soon enough we will all have to go back to the track to have a bet
