Wouldn,t be a fan of the favourite at all,3/1 on his two runs this year looks poor value.Quartz de Thaix,Master Overseer and Universal Soldier seem to be closely matched and hard to split, same probably can be said with fancied pair Monbeg Dude(Paul Carberry) and Viking blond.Pipes Son Sasta showed improved form over the course on his seasonal reappearance,4th that day Cannington Brook has franked that form.top weight Across the bay at a decent price has a squeak on his demolition job at Carlisle.Another with a chance is ruby's mount Michel le Bon who was the only one to give The Package a race at Wincanton with the 3rd beaten 40+ lths and most pulling up.
Two i like most are Giles Cross second in this the last two years.Mr Dartnell had a sickness in his yard but is adamant Giles Cross has had plenty of work,5lb claim should help has an affinity for this particular race and jumps well,I'll be surprised if he is unplaced.
Jadanli is a huge price, have to go back to the Powers gold cup of 2010 for his last win(alright 3 out of 10 completed) he hasn't raced a lot since and his run in the Troytown hinted he is coming back.Athenry man Mr. Gilligan makes no secret this has been his long term target and is delighted with the current state of the ground.
My bets:
2pts EW Giles Cross @ 10/1
0.5 pts EW Jadanli @ 33/1
GL with your own picks.

The horse I like is Our Island trained by Tim Vaughan. He wants lonnnggg and heavy and I'd say they almost broke him last year by running him in this race too soon into his career and only ten days after a 3m slog behind Cannington Brook in the Tommy Whittle (any relation to the fair-haired Everton hero Alan who used to adorn my bedroom wall???). He was one of the strongest fancies in the race last year and was backed into 10/1 on the day.

The trainer still thinks he might be a star stayer and with a rating of 125 is 5lbs lower than last year (finished sixth) and 6lbs below his hurdle mark. He's bred to win these races so he could be well-handicapped.

Chepstow is probably the worst track i've ever been, terrible for viewing although it was a flat meeting with most of the races coming down the straight.

I was going to back Giles Cross for this, thoght he'd go close but with the sickness in the stable (i know he has said he was not effected) i'm going to leave the race alone.

Hello WR,quoting Dartnall himself,
"It is a little worrying that Giles Cross has not run since April(when he was pulled up in the National) we wanted to run him in November but couldn't because of our troubles(equine herpes). he is a clean winded horse which is in his favour  but the real key is we have found out how to ride him,we hung onto him when he won the betfred national trial, thats the right way".
Also said in that interview he would have a 5lb claimer but Denis O Reagan rides.
Point is fair enough Wr but according to that he won,t be trailblazing like in the past.
GL with yours RA.

royal a i liked the case you put up for our island.til i started to delve into his chance.he was beaten 47l last yr off 128.he runs of 125 this yr but hes 2lbs out of it so hes really off 127.do you think he has improved that much or that the tommy whittle would have had that much effect on him?47l is a long way..but he fits a lot of trends

kavvie, I thought that as I was on a bit of a roll with my pointers thanks to Unoccupied and Shanroe Society that it might be worth following my hunch.

These handicaps are notorious but at nearly 40/1 I didn't see much downside. My reasoning was poor in that I missed his long handicap mark and I'm glad i'm not a scribe for the racing post! I do think he has the profile to win one of these races and I also think he's well handicapped relative to aspirations. I have little doubt he will be something of a springer again tomorrow. If Tom Segal has any sense, he'll agree with me.

lads i would not touch giles cross with a bargepole, yes he has been 2nd last 2 years, i rate him the main place lay bet of the race, and unlikely to complete the course.
he is an 11 year old running off a mark 6lbs above his previous best winning mark.
he has had no prep run this year.
yards horses running drunk.
too many young progressive types against him.

he is a bad bet here, lads betting him with their hearts not their heads.

our island has been pigging it in races, his jumping is poor and could leave him struggling from an early stage/

the ability "to travel" in this race has been a key part of winning this race over the years, crunching the form to find the one, in a horrible handicap is not my thing.

my bet tomorrow is derby straight at 4/5, and -1 at 2/1 in the fa cup.

i am laying t43 and will punt michel le bon,a lightly raced horse and i cant help but think its well in here.its run behind  the package certainly suggests that imo.

huddys id imagine its because tranmere are top of league 1 and promotion is the big prize for them.their centre forward and top scorer jake cassidy is gone back to wolves.they have a few injurys who are vital to them.they have a big game v crawley sat week and that might be the  one they are concentrating on rather than the fa cup.derby have a good home record in the championship with good recent form.they have an outside shot at promotion.they are a good all round team....i could be wrong on all above as to the reason why he picked them but id say im not too far out.if they go one up tranmere mightnt bother too much..

Suppose you were right regarding giles cross KL,shame as he was running a terrific race, classic ride by Carberry.

think giles cross injured himself in the process of running a cracker

dartnall won the bumper so the stable cloud must have evaporated

both weak in the market, people needed to be convinced

Just to clarify Giles Cross walked back OK, with his jockey still mounted. O'Regan reported "the gelding stopped quickly" Didn't look lame.

Workrider right again but as he is not a boom shouter it will probably go unnoticed like Colbert Station and many others.
Keen Leader not only right again but spectacularly so,we have run out of superlatives.
