Kelly - totally agree. A tremendous track. Great viewing all round. The track is being extended as well

I think I heard they were planning that , Kriskin . Played the odd game of golf ( incorporating part of the racecourse ) way back in the sixties . Sheep helped to keep the grass well cropped , good use of natural facilities . New course at Hollymount is excellent though , more space and good value for anyone looking for somewhere decent to play , untroubled . Padraig likes it .

I go west about once a year workrider , but there are so many good courses down the left hand side of Ireland you are spoilt for choice . Last time I was in the Ballinrobe clubhouse they had an introductory offer for new members of a years golf , no entry fee , and introductory lessons for 300 euros . Some of our clubs charge that for one round .
Great value that offer . |

One of the most enjoyable tracks to spend a summers evening at. Always a really good atmosphere there and a decent crowd, unlike some of the bigger tracks in the East of the country

kelly ,claremorris, a couple of years ago when they were turning it into a 18 hole course , they had a offer of 3,500 for LIFE membership....now THAT was value.....

Any deal like that is good workrider , provided you are going to use the facilities . My brother has honorary life membership now in our club , I reckon its worth 15 grand given his age and family life expectancy ( as far as you can depend on that ) . Nearly £1200 annual sub now , you need to play a fair bit to get value from that . Far cry from the one and a half guineas ( £1.58 ) I paid as annual sub when I started playing there as a juvenile back in time .

And maybe Tom Watson too , workrider . Different game nowadays .
Kriskin , checking up on the track issue , it seems that some problem re drainage on the new bit popped up , not surprising given the weather we have had for the last 2 years all over this island . Think its sorted . Apparently Ballinrobe are the first winners of this award under some new system devised by the powers that be . Tremendous boost for racing in the West . Good to see one of the smaller tracks getting recognition for doing a good job . |
