Last night I placed an in running bet on the NFL of Buffalo Bills -3 at 4/5.

the bet won and got paid.

today I get an email saying the price was wrong and it should of been 8/15
so they re-adjusted my account and paid out at 8/15.

they are saying in their rules they are covered for obvious errors.
how could 4/5 and 8/15 be an obvious error.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Customer,

Due to a technical problem, the price displayed on the Handicap Betting in the above match was incorrect. In accordance with our rules, we are obliged to correct these odds as follows:

Correct Odds - 8/15

Our rules state:

'We cannot allow for mistakes, nor accept responsibility for any errors or omissions in respect of the announcing, publishing, or marking of prices, runners, times or result, despite every effort to ensure their accuracy. Paddy Power reserves the right to correct any obvious errors'.

'If there are any blatant errors in prices transmitted bets will be settled at the correct price at the time of acceptance or the Starting Price (where applicable) whichever is the greater. We also reserve the right to void any bets where there has been a blatant error in prices'.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused you. For a complete list of our betting rules please consult the help menu on the Paddy Power homepage.

Its a disgrace that they can get away with this sort of cr@p.

How can 4/5 to 8/15 be an obvious error.

i talked to a guy today in customer services.i wanted to have a bet on a 9/2 shot ton ew.it was rejected. he didnt seem to have a clue about the difference between cheltenham and say the vaal.he left me on hold and then told me that they wouldnt lay me a bet in "certain markets".a hot novice chase at the leading course in england paddy?they have turned into an embarrasing joke.i havent ever won significantly off them.i might have backed an odd horse that shortened a bit and not won etc.i can bet unrestricted on their marvellous casino and blackjack games though!!!

The Bills scored a TD in the first 2 mins and led 10-0 at one stage so no surprise that the correct price wasn't 4/5 anyway. I do see where you're coming from at the same time but you have to expect to be voided if you're taking advantage of an blatantly wrong price. I backed a guy in the Tour de France to be King of the Mountains at 20/1 just after he won the first 2 Cat 1 climbs in one stage because the bookie hadn't updated their prices from before the stage started. It got voided after the stage but it wasn't unexpected. Sometimes you get away with it and sometimes you don't.

There is a principle involved where incorrect prices are displayed .  The displayed prices are an offer to treat , and the risk factors involved affect the punters decision to place a bet .

Likely that  big rob would not have taken the bet at 8/15 on the basis that it was not good value .  OK in this case the team won , but if they had lost there would not have been a word about it . The scenario then becomes possible that the bookie can put up whatever prices he wants to encourage business , and then decide later what to pay  out whatever odds suited his book  .  If you make a mistake , you pay for it , simple principle , surprised that a sizeable outfit would not just shrug it off and put it down to incompetent staff .

People make mistakes here on a daily business , but once the bet is struck I dont think B/F ever recall the transaction , unless its a Voler moment .

They're a bloody shambles.

My account is heavily restricted but only being laid to lose 150 on the PP Gold Cup is a disgrace

Sent em a snotty e-mail after being offered 13 quid on a 10/11 shot and got one back basically telling me to eff off

db1974 I think your missing the point
PP are saying the correct price at the time was 8/15.
How could I of been taking advantage of a blatantly wrong price ?.

Theres not a huge difference in the prices.

Its not like they came back and said it should of been 1/5.

whats good for the goose etc punters should also have a getout clause for example, i was so inebriated i thought placing 100 quid on the apmcoy ridden kid cassidy was a cracking idea but after sobering up i realised the horse is a nutjob so please void the bet. if they can alter the terms after the result then punters can too.

The thread title is spot on.  Let me tell you my experience of these messers. A couple of years ago I placed a golf bet. Powers were first up with the market and there was no liquidity on here so I had no price guide. It was on a player to finish top Australasian. He was priced at 14/1.  Had a few quid each way. Nothing big just my normal bet. Looked a good price but as I said I had no guide at this point so it was only my judgement which can't be trusted. The tournament got started on the Thursday. Bear in mind my bet was placed on Mon night.  On Saturday evening I get an email from PP telling me that the price was wrong.  14/1 was his price to finish top rest of world and not just top australasian. Obviously I was disappointed and I know mistakes happen but they had ample opportunity to contact me before the tournament began or indeed on the Thursday. Why wait until Sat night when it was obvious he was going to win or at worst place? Tell me before and I cancel the bet. PP wait and see and if he plays bad and get the money. And if he goes good they slash the price the bits. Punter cant win. PP have their safeguards but the punter has none.  Spoke to customer service and may as well have been speaking to myself. Didnt have a clue.  Talked to me like I was a criminal for having the bet in the 1st place.

Powers are no different than the rest, in fact probably better than most, Ladcrooks and Spoils would've done the same thing and probably suspend your account the next day?.

When gambling is not law, the punter is p!ssing against a tidal wave, the bookmakers can do as they see fit, the old days it was called a gentlemans agreement today its called thou shall not win by any means, be it legit or spotting a rick, their rules I stress again "their" rules is basically dictatorship by stealth, There's no goverment legislation just a one way street.

Kelly is right, if you made a mistake, would they contact you and say, sorry Mr. Jones you're losing bet was placed after the off and we've refunded your bet?, or would it read something like this sorry Mr.Jones  your winning bet has been voided as you placed the bet after the official off time?

Paddy Power are many things. They are superb at PR/Marketing and Technology but as a bookmaker they are an embarrassment to bet and deal with.

I'm not sticking up for Powers just saying if it was Ladcrooks it would've had the same outcome, 4/5 8/15 is hardly palpable error, if you grabbed 33/1 on say a 3/1 shot thats palpable error.

Paid a rare visit to a shop today to take advantage of de Paors Ruby offer.Had a ton bet and handed over two fifty euro notes to pay for it.I have been on both sides of the counter and it should be a seamless transaction taking a couple of seconds at most but the PP wannabe manager snatched the money while holding on to the docket,he then took care to count the money slowly making sure that it was indeed two fifty euro notes.Maybe he thought I was doing a slow count but the race was 2 hours away.
If you are going to be intimidated by and awkward about customers producing a ton surely you are in the wrong game.Common sense and discretion are obviously optional extras for PP staff.

two saturdays ago I fancied a horse at 16s-18s in a big flat handicap.  I was checking the different sites I bet with and was looking at pp.  In the mean time the horse was punted into 12s, but the place part on PP had not moved (all others had adjusted) and he was 5/1 to place.  I loaded a shot and it was taken @ 5s, so I did it again and it took that also.  The horse was second and I was paid @ 5/1 about 30 mins later!!!  tbh I presumed the price would have been adjusted, but Im not complainingHappy

Irish betting ombudsman, not in the back pocket of the big bookmakers, might be the long term solution. Does John Martin still write his punters platform in The Star?. Might be worth a try.The palpable error rule the bookmakers have covers a multitude and is generally invoked when they screw up.

all the while punters on here whinge till the cows come home, the PP shares continue to rocket on the back of substantial profit margins.
By:

When: 19 Nov 12 22:42
Suitangi not sure what your point is?, why do punters always have a stigma put over their heads?, say like whinger and a pocket talker?.
Without the punter racing is but an un-entity, Wille Mullins and Patrick Power know that, but also know that they'll always be around, its called the comfort zone, compounded by a bunch of apathetics that masquerade as the authorities and the media..

Assuming this bet was placed in running , the prices offered dynamically by the bookie are in exactly the same place as if offered on an exchange .  Seems pretty obvious to me that axiom .

If one of us offers odds above the general view it will be snapped up and there is no redress .  Should a bookie have different rules ?

Basketball Power Play flashing on the PP home page  tonight

Orlando are 20/23 Oklahoma are 20/33 and San Antonio are 10/11

all to win enhanced to 4/1

but by taking the prices you get 4.73/1

I should stick a few quid on the Power Play AT 4/1 in the hope it wins to what they settle it at .

Powers love to play the "big lad" and let on they are layers.THEY ARE NOTHING OF THE SORT.I had an online account closed years ago for being unprofitable. Not long ago i decided to try opening another account online and it was closed before the bet i placed had even ran! God knows what information they still have stored on me but it is probably illegal.

I still pick them off when they are best price something in the shops and this gives me great satisfaction.

I placed a few quid on the above mug basketball treble at  the supposedly enhanced 4/1
Low and behold it won.
Checked this morning and it was settled at 4/1 not the 4.73/1 that I would of got by just taking the normal odds.

I headed off to work  happy tho as in PP's rules they say if the wrong odds are taken
"In accordance with our rules, we are obliged to correct these odds"

Home now and still only settled as 4/1 no change.

I wonder how many people just back their enhanced prices blindly without checking
what the normal odds would be and backed that last night and only got 4/1.

Strangley tho my original NFL bet has been re settled today and I have got the difference back that they took off me.
they have paid out at the 4/5.
