that was rancid , a jockey who i hold in the highest regard but that ride , by god how bad was that , i'm talking through my  pocket i have to confess ...i backed it at 6.6 ....before they reached the first it had hit 12.0...never got any lower as the race progressed ....that horse was never put into the race imo...a terrible slight on irish racing ..surely questions must be asked of him ....

Betting in running was very unusual, streaky stable had hit form last weekend aswell. 5 Mins before the race 4.5 ,over 12 by the time they had reached the first.
Sidenote -130k matched before the off,one of the lowest I have seen in an Irish race

Agree 100% with the OP. That was disgusting tbh.

Are we talking about kiely's horse here?
Report bobbybocala November 6, 2012 6:56 PM GMT
Not often I agree with old wonker but this is one case where I concur.....have had my eye on Doyle for a while and have noticed he is a rather chancy operator.....when toms mounts drift.....they don't be around....and as for that little kiely.....his record with favs speaks volumes .....a fairly lethal combination all told.....

Filthy stable

Whilst i respect Workriders race reading ability i think he has got this one wrong.John Kiely seems to give all his jockeys the same instructions, start off in last position and make your ground slowly, look at the rides his bumper horses get usually with Derek O`Connor in the saddle way off the pace.In todays race On The Way Out was a length behind the winner Highdownhill for most of the race but jumped sketchily and was first horse off the bridle,i think he tried.

the fact he went from 6.6 at he off to hitting 12.0 before the first tells its own tale wildmanfromborneo , the horse was always going really well  , he even took a pull approaching the 3rd last...i think he hit 20.1 after the 2nd fence ....imo somebody knew it was not his day today.....as i said he's a jockey i have great respect for...i backed him on keen leaders tip in the next btw . i normally dont have a problem with tom ...today was unacceptable...

Interesting stuff. I was in Powers on Fleet Street at lunchtime, and a fella came over to me and asked me how to dial a number on his phone - as it was new. I helped him and off he went outside. Came back in, and lands back over beside me to tell me his friend owns a horse in the 1.55 at Punc, and that was him he rang and they think he has a great chance. Was the Kiely horse. Never backed it myself but followed the race on BF on the mobile when I was getting something to eat and noticed his price stayed in low double figures for the vast majority of the race. When I seen it in double figures just after the off, assumed it was left 10 lengths or something, but have to say it seemed odd that there was so little movement.

All John Kiely's bumper horses are held up because it's a selling stable. This is how "the Kid" rode himself and apart from looking more visually impressive,he also believes it gives them confidence. You will find that a lot Kiely's bumper horses that are sold for large money to England don't do much after it because their debut is their Fa cup final,eg The Biker,Candy Creek and the one Ger Burke had that won the Leopardstown bumper that was sold to Wylie for 200k+

How anyone could call this stable rancid is beyond me,Mr.Kiely is a gentleman and had a very public fallout with a major owner 9 years ago and refused to train for that owner for the following 5 years.

However wr is correct about today. On the way out is limited but you could not but be bemused by the betting in running today, very strange.

I was unaware of that drift and must admit it seems strange.

dj876.......blossom gate ran in a maiden hurdle last year in roscommon........it was quite a short price......regular rider aboard......ground visibly very bad but unraceable round the inside......blossom gate is quite uneasy in the market......and is promptly glued to the inside rail all the way round......eventually pulling up......Kielys record with favourites is a poor one......much more prolific with outsiders......it isnt much of an outfit anyway......horses ridden too far back......and for all the time he trained.......has had about one runner in 25 years at cheltenham.......
Report dj876 November 7, 2012 5:45 PM GMT
Bobby racing should have been called off that day in Roscommon,Ground was unraceable. As I have said previously they sell the majority of their best horses but have still had some notable achievements for a small stable.
2 Galway Hurdles
Irish Cesarewitch
Royal bond Hurdle
Champion Punchestown Bumper
First and second in Aintree mares bumper
December Festival Hurdle.

As for Cheltenham has yet to have a winner but has been close and a few more than 1 runner, just a couple of em of top of my head
Take Five(2000)-second Ladbroke hurdle
Liss a paraoigh(2002)-9th in champion hurdle
Liss a paoraigh(2004)-5th in Stayers
Blazing liss-Clipped heels in bumper
Frawley-3rd in Cheltenham bumper 2009

If u think this stable is rancid Bobby, then you know very little about their operation and even less about the character of John Kiely.

I'm sure many horse traners are lovely guys, but I wouldn't trust any of them.

A fair CV allright. It would hardly get you a job as a carpark attendant in Closutton for a open day.The usual cliches spouted about this man baffle me.Ultra shrewd etc.....
Report wildmanfromborneo November 7, 2012 11:02 PM GMT
He is in his seventies and doubt if he ever stopped a horse in his life.I think DJ876 has got it spot on in this case
Report Allduckornodinner November 7, 2012 11:18 PM GMT
Blossom Gate wasn't off in her two runs previous to her recent win. He has had any number of "eyecatching" JP horses too such as Carlingford Lough on his debut. That being said Kiely horses not running in the green and gold hoops will almost always be trying for their life.
