I'd go back to the 1994 final Down beat Dublin, but i know a man who never misses a final  and he said he'd go back to 1989 when Cork beat Mayo and Tip destroyed Antrim, i'll bow to his superior knowledge of the GAA.

Kilkenny destroyed Waterford that day alright dj but it was awesome to see the cats that day, they were unstoppable. But i agree you're looking back years. Remember lads that may not have been a great match today but that was the replay, the first fixture was a great game of hurling i'd still think it was better than last week's game.

What do people come on here like Gant, booby and toby and spout off rubbish. Just give your opinion lads it's years since the football final has been as good as the hurling final. My local club only played Gaelic football but hurling is a better sport and the comparison between the finals illustrates this.

Please no more abuse just give years.

I agree Freddie i remember that game well mate, Meath won the football final that year, so it was a weak year that year. I actually read an article recently that said that was the worse year for gaelic footballl.

Freddie, that was a dire final in '99 alright but the football wasn't great either.
Meath beat Cork and looked like doing so throughout the game.

Been a few landslides in recent years, KK beating Limerick and in particular Waterford. Football must have been better in both cases.

I was at that 99 final between Cork and Kilkenny, I had a ticket for the old Nally stand to say I was saturated was an understatement, dour stuff indeed!.

Kilkenny dominated for nearly the entire game but hit wide after wide, I think they hit 13 in the second half alone, I seem to remember Andy Comerford totally miscueing what was a relatively easy free to put Kilkenny within touching distance, and just after that Cork outscored Kilkenny 5 to 1 in the last 10 minutes to win a game by a point they never ever looked like winning, that was Cody's first game in charge, they went on to win 3 of the next 4 All Irelands, Cork won the next 2 before Kilkenny beat them in 2006, only Tipp 2010 since then has stopped the rot, ironically it pissed rain again that day like it did in this years Leinster final, it seems the only way anybody can beat Kilkenny is for the other teams to get down on their hands and knees and pray for rain, after yesterday its hard to see who is going to stop them again next year even allowing for the weary ageing legs, class will often out, the ability to deal with the pressure of the big game occasion is a huge psychological advantage Kilkenny have over their rivals been there done that so many times, Galway had their chance bottled it, Kilkenny dusted themselves down saw where it went wrong and learned from it, Galway had no plan B simple as!.

Kilkenny didn't change things all that dramatically just pushed their full backline a little further up the field, which allowed them to win a lot more looose ball.
In the first half in the drawn game they were comprehensively outfoxed in that department, once Kilkenny were winning the majority of the breaking ball the outcome was inevitable!.

It might have cost them the concession of 3 goals but it was a risk they were willing to take, it allowed their clearly superior hurlers to have more possession of the sliotar and dominate proceedings from virtually the word go, it was a mystery how Galway were only 4 points down at halftime?, 2 quick goals (one very soft) put a bit of gloss on what was in fact a very abject display from Galway.
Kilkenny didn't flinch one bit, before Galway could take a breath the ball was in the back of their net and it was goodnight Irene from there on in.

Galway can moan about the disallowed goal, a poor decision you might think?, but the whistle was already blown, so whats the problem?, Kilkenny have a few moans of their own, how the Glaway No8 was not shown a straight red for striking Richie Power not once but twice with his hurley is a head scratcher?, when you consider the umpire was standing within a couple of feet of the incident?.
I think the ref booked the Galway keeper instead?, and they like to remind us how Kilkenny are supposedly a dirty team?, no more dirtier than the rest of them, just victims of the green eyed monster that seeps out of every pore of every Munster player, fan and journalist down the country, get your own house in order and stop blaming Kilkenny for your own failures!!!.
