I back trapatoni in the euros , his achievement in even getting us there was excellent and his loyalty to the players that did it for him commendable if misguided, when he had better at his disposal.
Our group out there , spain,Italy, and Croatia gave us no chance and Trap using the players that got us there acceptable although he should have given some others a chance in the last game when we had nothing to play for.
He then starts a new campaign and sticks to the same group of players minus a few retirees as before. And if history tells us anything its that he will stick with these to the bitter end.
So apart from replacing someone injured LONG, MCCLEAN ,GIBSON, COLEMAN, CLARK,and MCCARTHY who will be gone when Andrews comes back will never have a hope of holding down a place.
Gibson knew this imo and felt no matter how well he played in the next few games he was gone when Andrews came back. For that reason i dont see him rejoining the squad and i see more following his lead with Mcclean already showing his frustration by tweeting that he was fully fit.

i also think its time for the guy to up sticks , but i'm afraid it'll be awhile yet , only when they see the irish people voting with their feet will they take notice...by then it will be to late...he will not change his mentality for anyone ..its his way or no way ...he had a wonderful chance to make a clear out before the start of this campaign ...did he take it ...no...another campaign of same old , same old ,.....there is nothing new coming out of it .....

i liked the guy but our better young players will realise they dont have a hope of becoming regulars and quit . If they were just coming through fair enough but all are premiership regulars now. Unless they keep winning i can see a massive backlash

A leopard can't change his spots and that's what we've got,i.e, an old man (who is terrified of losing every game he plays and never trying to play the game with a positive attitude) looking after a mostly sub international standard dispirited team with the players mentioned in the O P all glaring omissions,win or not this evening I'd love to see him gone.

Dennis O Brien who is bankrolling his salary obviously had an input into his selection for the job. Big time businessmen think they are experts at everything they put their hand to. It is a sad state of affairs when someone like O'Brien has to rubber stamp the appointment of the national coach.

Irish soccer is in a woeful state......The standard is dire and Trappatoni can`t be blamed for that.....the younger players mentioned are,at best,mediocre

A lot of unhappy players in this squad. Gibson turning his back and now McLean speaking out. I know 4 other players who have yet to speak out very unhappy with Trap. 2 of them started last nite. It's only a matter of time until it all explodes for the ole one

The problem with Trap is he raised the expectations of people in the country with, what is, the worst squad ireland has ever had.
It is a major miracle he got this team to the Euro's, we are rubbish from top to bottom and he see's this as the only way of playing to be effective. We could get a Redknapp or Coyle in and play these 'footballing' lads and pass it around and finish 3rd or 4th in our group, but if you want results Traps the man |

Gibson, Ireland & McClean acted disgracefully. Keane, Staunton, Harte, Quinn & players of that ilk never acted like that but i guess thats the way football is these days |

My main point is that while I accept that the current set of players are not world beaters they are better than they are showing currently but there is no sign of any effort to integrate new players that are playing in the Premiership.
Fine and Dandy if you are on the team but I do feel sorry for the likes of McClean and Gibson. They can't even find out how they are fixed with a guy that can't even speak the language and refuses to engage. You have to keep the fringe players sweet as well as show them a path onto the first 11. The same applies to the young players trying to break into the squad. To my eyes this looks like a mini version of Jacks army except without the ability |

Mightymoyes i can guess what team you support and i go to Goodison myself and would obviously love to think differently. I'm not impressed with Gibson he disappears in games and the fact that Moyes was trying to bring in a new midfielder during the week speaks volumes imo. Gibson has already being given chances by Trap, his last big chance he was so poor in a match that should have suited him Macedonia at home where he started. At best they're nothing between them although i do think Andrews and McCarthy are the best duo. The fact Everton bought him for half a million speak volumes of what AF thought of him. McLean is a better winger than Cox and should have started agreed. Irish football is in a very bad place with majority of people hoping the national team gets beat every time they take the field.

i suppose we have to ask ourselves why then rocket , my opinion is that the irish soccer public are sick to the teeth of watching they rubbish thats been dished out in the recent past ...i for one wished we would do the right thing and go back to playing with our hearts rather than playing for results like fridays...i've followed the irish team for more years than i care to remember , the stuff that tapp has this team playing bears no resemblance to what i grew up believing was football....

Nah WR i agree 100% with that he should never have been given a second contract that's the biggest mistake. I would rather go back to trying to play a bit of football as you said if the results don't come our way so be it but at least we'll be able to watch them. It does not matter anyway as the FAI are all but bankrupt and can't sack him.
