Slugged it out with Louis down the stretch , and a win is a win .
Should put him in a good position for the final Fedex tournament ( they do a reset after this weeks BMW has whittled them down to 30 ) . Unless Watney , Woods , Snedeker , Oosthuizen , Dustin , or Dufner wins the BMW , Rory will be No 1 ( for the points reset ) at the kickoff in the final Tour Championship .
Padraig and Gmac both need to finish high in the BMW to get into the top 30 , heres hoping they do . A bit of company for Rory would do no harm .

Rivetting tournament with two of the young generation major champions duelling it out and Tiger lurking menacingly close.
Rory really blossoming now as 'the man to beat' and automatic favourite for most events. He's learning to clinch wins in tight situations to add to his runaways -his lay up at the 72nd today showed mature course management. Some great times ahead following this lad . ( Presume the PM of the ROI is preparing his congratulatory statement as we write !  ) |

Poor form of any sports department not to mention McIlroy's win but only on the basis it's an international event and not an "Irishman" winning I presume vubes?
RTE is a media organisation generally obsessed with every bit of news from the north: motor accidents, riots, murders, social unrest and assorted trivia. I hope the new DG reviews the newsrooms priorities. Celebrate and report on matters of importance please and remove one of the bugbears from my sad life. Alternatively lets have a Manx, Glasgow and Cardiff correspondent to keep Tommy Gorman and his team company and we'll pretend we are celebrating "celtic" roots and not a blatant agenda. Listen to any news bulletin on a slow day, catch the six counties story and ask your self: what's all that about? |

Sometimes I wonder at incompetence among our broadcasters . Golf is big box office throughout the world , and attracts large numbers of unsung visitors week in and week out availing themselves of some of the best ( and most concentrated ) positioned courses anywhere in the world .
One of the commentators last night in Boston mentioned the variety and quality of the courses in Ireland as a great training ground for future champions ( and Tom , and Tiger , and Payne and Mark etc are testimony to that judgement , never mind homegrown James and Fred and Harry and Joe and Christy ..sen and jun .. and Des and Darren and Padraig and Graeme and Rory etc). I know the average weekly green fee income for one of our premier courses , and I can assure you it is substantial and regular , and they dont need many members as a result to guarantee income . One thing I would advocate ( if it is not already out there ) is a composite green fee ticket for visitors to these shores , spread over the period of a month ( bums on seats somewhere in Ireland for that duration ) . Physically very few can play back to back rounds on tough ( unknown ) courses after travel and a bit of craic over too concentrated an itinerary . But 10 say rounds over a monthe should be do-able , the high profile courses will always be well subscribed , but mixed in with lower ranked ( but probably just as enjoyable for most of those who visit ) courses on a tiered basis would spread the load ( and the enjoyment ) , never mind the satisfaction of planning and discovering new opportunities . Big opportunity currently given the profile of our golfers present and past . Green fees of 200 euros plus for a round of golf do nothing for our claim to be the island of welcome , £100 sterling max per round should be a target for those encouraging golfing visitors , and I know my club ( top 10 easily in North ) would be more than happy with £40 from visitors ( subject to timings as we run chock a bloc from May to September for our more than 1000 members ). BRS would I know do a good job in building an appropriate system into their package . Strike while the iron is hot ( and likely to stay so given Rorys current form and high profile position ) , you have to cash in on your real sporting stars while they are getting publicity . Absolutely -RTE sports have even given the news blackout treatment to Harrington .
They constantly ignore significant international achievements in two of the sports that Ireland excels at -Racing and Golf. I don't fully understand it -but then I think 'It's RTE we're talking about here --overpaid , narcissistic ,nepotistically produced denizens of the hall of mirrors that is Montrose' and then I kinda do . |

GUI is island based , and Rory runs out of Dublin now ( management wise ) . Olympics is a once every 4 years anomaly , a legacy of our ( glorious ??? ) past organisation wise .
And we even have people from Monaghan and South Africa playing for Ulster ( rugby ) nowadays , wonder will Leinster and Munster ever buy into that ? |

Sport internationally now has moved a long way from the amateur days . Some of my younger relations / extended family circle were being enlightened by me at the weekend , reference Olympics , Lance , Michele , the impact / change coming from professionalism . The top athlete of the first part of the last century ( 1900 to 1950 ) was Jim Thorpe , not Jesse , a native American essentially , who cleaned up at the 1912 Olympics . He also played football and baseball . Stripped off his Olympic medals subsequently ( but later reinstated when sense surfaced years later ) because someone discovered he had got a few 10 buck or so subs for playing the odd minor league baseball match when that money meant family survival and the relevance to the Olympic discipline was infinitesimal . Things change . |

Stupendous performance tonight . Once he hit the front he looked in complete control ( of himself and of the tournament ) . Tiger like , praise cant be much higher .
