just checking some of the pps prices for the game and noticed in the scoring match bet market aidan o shea is 5/6 to outscore d bastick..this is serious value..o shea is a very classy footballer..what are really working for any potential backer...
1) o shea is a natural forward will be much more comfortable in a scoring position than bastick
2) there is the prospect that despite being named in midfield o shea could be moved to full forward before the start of the game
3) o shea is one of mayos key players and will not be taken off even if not playing well..bastick had a great game against laois yet was still taken off just after half time..has to be the strong possibility of not lasting the game
4) o shea could conceivably take a few long range frees
5) o shea is a greedy player by nature more likely to take his point than lay it off to a forward
all in all i think this should be a 1-4 shot instead is 5/6..cant see it not coming up unless he sustains an early injury

He was a forward and a very effective one on the minor team that took Tyrone to a final replay. The last time I recall him in the forward role was the year they demolished Roscommon.
His lack of application has been what has held him back over the past few years. Unlikely to move from midfield at the start of the game but if the service into the forwards is not working then he could very well be used as a target man later in the game. Seamus can slot into the midfield role if Aidan is pushed forward. |

erris do you know what happened the last man that said on here that a 5/6 shot shuda been a 1/5 shot....it ended in tears mate...in tears.....Good luck with this project.....

Great shout erris.
Without the presence of key man Andy Moran, James Horan may have something up his sleeve by putting Aidan O'Shea in on top of Rory O'Carroll, this would give Dublin something to think about. It's is not as if Mayo cant afford to move O'Shea from midfield, players like his brother Seamus, McGarrity and Geraghty could support Barry Moran. Best of luck to Mayo tomorrow. It's been 64 years since we've had an Ulster/Connacht All Ireland final. |

the price has moved to 8/11..still serious value...youd have to imagine that at some stage one of geraghty mcgarrity or seamus will come into midfield so only alternative will be to move aidan into the forwards..was at the game last sunday and you could see the hunger donegal had for it..hopefully mayo will have the same tomorrow

I've backed Mayo to win.
Yes erris the workrate Donegal have is extraordinary, hunger is something you cant buy. Dublin are a pale shadow of last season, maybe the will and want of it is gone, they are only human afterall. Reports today that A.Brogan, despite being picked to start will not take his place and C.Kilkenny will come in. Mayo to win by 1 pt. |

but if you back the o shea match bet and he fails to score it will be money back if bastick fails to score as well which is a distinct possibility...just more of a safety net i still expect o shea to get at least one or two

He couldn't lose after Bastick was taken off. Bets refunded. I've seen much worse tips put up here seeing as Bastick was hugely unlikely to score.

at least the guy was man enough to put up a well thought out bet ...unlike some of the clowns on here ...booby who are you to be a critic ...i seem to remember you putting up an odds on tip here ..allegedly from a trainer friend ,they had to send a taxi out for it ,it was dark before the thing finished ...shame on you...

Mayo, far the better team deserved it. Dublin finished the game like a champion, went down fighting but it wasnt to be. Best of luck to the Mayo folk on the 32rd. James Horan, a shrewd buck and his Mayo players will relish the Donegal challenge. Although I cant see them turning the Ulster champs over. It will be a great occasion, first Connacht/Ulster All Ireland final since 1948. |

just didnt happen..cudnt believe how deep he played..with the full forward line operating so well and o connor knocking over the long range frees the opportunities were limited..money back tho so it could have been worse.when bastick went off thought there was a great chance...

He was proving too effective in his defensive midfield role with Barry Moran playing more advanced so the chances of collecting were limited. I assume any reasonable think tank will now conclude that Bastick does not have a future in the Dublin midfield. Neither does his partner from yesterday. They are both very limited and were swamped by Mayo yesterday. MacAuley was completely different class to them both in his half forward role in the first half and certainly when moved to midfield.

Bastick turned up in a few forward positions and could have nicked a point before getting taken off.
I'm not going to comment on the bet as I hadn't seen any of Mayo before Sunday. Gilroy shouldn't be entertaining Fennell. Macauley is carrying the midfield and he needs a partner. Up to now Bastick has done a decent holding job but is a limited player. Barry Cahill is a gifted player imo but Gilroy doesn't trust him as far as he can kick him. Kevin McMenamon should be an automatic starter. I'd chance Cahill in the forwards before Cullen even. Connolly needs a kick in the arse and he needs to sort out his discipline, but he has the most latent talent and needs to be persevered with. Ciaran Kilkenny will develop into a very decent player. Alan Brogan will be reduced to cameos, Bernard Brogan will join Cameo and sing "Word up" wearing only his jockstrap. |

Yea O'Shea was playing so deep, he looked to be providing cover for Donal Vaughan who had his hands full with MD MacAuley. Vaughan is too loose for a centre back, as seen on Sunday.
I'd agree that Fennell and Bastick are not up to it. Bastick is a worker, a good honest footballer but I dont know why Gilroy persists with Fennell? And what is the idea of MacAuley playing at centre forward, yes he is a great man to run at defences but he was the engine of the Dublin team last year from midfield. Eamonn O'Conghaile, ran the show for Dublin U21s earlier in the year should be given a chance. Will Gilroy stay? He has massive commitments being a successful business man aswell as having a young family. If he does resign, Jim Gavin would have to be the no.1 candidate. Mickey Whelan proved to be massive loss on the sideline this season. |

To many of the dublin footballers got caught up in their own hype this year imo....4 or 5 of the squad seemed to have joined the dublin celebrity circuit.....to be honest dublin havent played well all year and this would say to me that the standard in leinster has dropped massively when you see how tamely the likes of meath and kildare exited the championship ultimately....the hunger just wasnt there for dublin in what could have been a great chance to win back to back all irelands when you consider that both cork and kerry were already out...

some pundits seem to be ridiculing the notion of hunger playing a part in the mayo victory but i think it was a huge factor.. dublin didnt have the same fanaticism as last year..it was the same as the cork game when youve put so much of your life into winning an all ireland it is very hard to replicate that..although i strongly fancied mayo to beat dublin ive the opposite feeling for the final..think mayo will struggle badly against donegal and our only chance may be that the hype gets to the donegal players...it is impossible to shield yourself away from it...

I'd agree Leinster football has fallen behind.
The loss on Sunday might bring them lads back down to earth and maybe next year the hunger for success will return. Back to back All Irelands is massive ask for any football team, you seen Cork last season, found wanting also. Kerry were the last team to do back to back (06/07), Mark O'Sé made a good point on the Sunday game the other night; after winning the AI in '06 O'Connor stepped down and in came Pat O'Se, a new lease of life for the following year, fresh ideas etc. I think Donegal have their names written on the cup. How can Mayo break down the Donegal system? |
