IRISH CARNIVAL IN RIO

DATELINE : 10 August 2016

Team Ireland today celebrated its first ever medal in Olympic sprinting when Arilli Fassamuva won Gold in the Mens 100m when he edged out defending champion Usain Bolt
in a new world record of 9.59 sec.
Arilli , 20 , a member of Tobinstown AC, said it was a dream come true . A mere child when his family fled war-torn Nigeria , he soon settled in to his adopted.
'I always felt welcome in Ireland', he said ,'and I'm especially delighted to win on Katie Taylor day'.
Arilli , a fluent Irish speaker , received calls of congratulation from President Gearóid Mac Adhaimh who said that the elimination of funding for elite sports was now paying dividends and that the new Republic would further promulgate an era of multicultural egalitarianism.
In other news,Séamas Rafferty finished last in his heat of the 400m and Aisling O'Sullivan was knocked out in the first round of the Womens flyweight event.

9.59 might well be an Irish record but sadly would not quite qualify for a World Record!

Wonderful to see Arilli represent a multi-cultural inclusive modern Ireland.

I wouldn't bet against a child of a young Polish or Nigerian family currently aged 10 and who in 12 years time will represent Ireland at some sports or other, good luck to them. Also, the old adage, kids from poorer backgrounds using sport as a vehicle to improve their lot. Look at the GB athletics team.

Multiculturalism failed in Britain and it will fail here and as usual it will be the ordinary people who will feel the brunt of the failure.
The denizens of Dun Laoghaire who naturally lead the charge in this regard will use the immigrants as servants and cheap labour but they won't be forced to live with them, won't be terrorised by their gangs, won't find their children a minority in their schools,it is easy for them to be so self righteous .
