2) The racist comments last week on the boxer
anyone else would be slung off |

By:
His name and his age, he's single handedly ruined the boxing on Rte this week.
|
|

I'd be a big knocker of most commentators but when it comes to Olympics and especially Olympic boxing, he's as good as there is out there. A bundle of knowledge!

He is not half as annoying as the lad that does the voice over in Paddy Flowers. Constant blabbing on and on about there 'specials'. . . Specials is right.
. They only put up there jockey doubles and trainer doubles etc when they know that one of them will drift and probably get chinned. And dont start me on there morning/early prices. Pitiful to say the least. Nice ploy they have going though with, if there is a shortener on here, there early prices will be slashed everytime but if there is a drifter they wont budge on the price. And they will leave the same 'early underpriced' animal on there screens right up to the opening show safe in the knowledge they are laying it at a reduced price which only the folk that dont know better will take. So the next time you hear Mr Swanky Voice giving it socks about how 'punter friendly' and 'best for value' Paddy Flowers are, have a little check on here first to see which one is drifting like a barge. ![]() |

I like Jimmy, in the same you'd tolerate and enjoy a doddery aul' relation who keeps telling you the same old yarns all the time - irritating and beguiling at the same time, but somehow still a little re-assuring in its own peculiar way, a constant in a world of change.
However..... ......when it comes to boxing the commentary bears no resemblance to what is actually happening in the ring! I only first started to notice this when Dunne was fighting. Regardless of whether Dunne was winning or losing a round, Jimmy was waxing on about Dunne, and on a few occasions he was getting the head beat off him .....particularly the last one, little Thai(?) guy was well on top...I remember myself and the brother looking at each other laughing, what fight is Jimmy watching![]() ![]() |

What can`t be denied is his in depth knowledge of all sports,he was a great commentator but sadly his voice is failing,in that he has something in common with a much different animal John McCririck.

By:
He's had his day. A yesterday man. Give some young lad a chance.
|
|
By:
the man is a legend. most people wouldnt want to listen to anyone else
|
|
By:
He doesn't commentate on what is actually happening in the ring. It is all just generic background and babble. Maybe that is what people want.

Jimmy-Watch
Not a bad performance from Jimmy at all, didn't overdo the hyperbole (slight lapse when I thought he was going to name every boxer to ever come out of Belfast, but Conlon hit a good shot and it distracted him ). Overall I'm happy to give Jimmy a 7.5/10. Well done, son!Jimmy Count........Conlon v Oubaali (point for good punch, hit etc...each acknowledgement) 1st Round Conlon 4 v 2 Oubaali Actual 5-5 2nd Round Conlon 2 v 1 Oubaali Actual 7-7 3rd Round Conlon 3 v 2 Oubaali Actual 10-6 2nd round...tough customer, good defensive work by Conlon, Frenchie might run out of steam 3rd round..small men from belfast etc etc, conlon great defensive etc etc, might go countback maybe, think Conlon done enough |
