They probably want to show us all our swimmers doing so well! Somethings RTE do well however even Jimmy Magee had Darren ONeill winning the first round yesterday. That is the man who has been to 100,000 Olympic games. Just imagine how much the Irish taxpayer paid him over all those years. I dont know but tbf he is possibly only getting peanuts relative to the ridiculous money being paid to some of them. GB has been paid a fortune over the years and he is still on while we have 400,000 mainly young people unemployed.

I have large problems with their at times amateurish coverage + why is it inserted into the evening TV news? It's sport - not 'news' and it's worthy I believe of a dedicated sports prog of its own - why is it 'news'. It's only 'news' if the main TV news starts with something like 'tonight's headlines: gold for Ireland in London...' then, only then is it a news story.
One night this week the main TV news anchor told us after the break we'll go over to London, but not before letting the guy in London to come in and he said more or less the very same thing - they hadn't it even scripted.......... Then, the pure amateur carry on continues, the guy in London announced as an extra news item, I was on the edge of my seat to hear this apparent 'breaking news', oops breaking sports story, from London he'd this apparent headline, that the Meath football manager had left his post - wow! On the same night - I'm now reaching my hobby horse folks - St Pats were playing a Europa Cup qualifying game - not a dicky bird. And there's more, we went back to RTE news to be told about Ladies Day at Galway Races and who won, yes, we even got the name, of who won the Best Hat at Ladies Day... Are these folk for REAL? Sports coverage? News coverage? And dont let someone say in here say or ask 'who watches LoI football?'? Who flippin 'watches' or even participates in yachting? 'Oh and Johnny Soandso got 89th place in the 49 sailing class at Weymouth....' (yawns...) |

disagree, swimming finals shuda been shown tonight live over track heats

It's obvious that a lot of the presenters haven't a clue what they are talking about.
I watched the Women's 10k tonight and George Hamilton started going on about the peloton. Granted, the only way the Irish girl could have kept up with the Africans would have been if she'd brought along a bike, but pedalling round would have been slightly in breach of the rules. |

Genuinely, why would anyone with a choice watch the games on RTE!?
BBCi is simply the only place to watch. RTE belongs to a bygone era. |

I guess some will watch RTE out of some sort of nationalistic fervour, and to be fair a genuine interest in the Irish athletes, but it really is woeful compared to the BBC. We can't really compare like for like. If we had access to the home TV station of another approx 4-5 million population country, this could give us some sort of comparison.
If you are interested in the Irish boxers and now how Annalise Murphy gets on then, you need to keep an eye on RTE. Otherwise, its BBC, the coverage is extensive. Yes, OTT Team GB this and that, but they've had a great couple of days. I'm really enjoying BBC's coverage. The red button allows anyone with a genuine interest in what are to us minority sports, unlimited access. This is great for those sports. |
