Big drop again on Thursday. Still a great crowd but for a brilliant punting card the decline would have to concern

The attendance figure at Galway for Ladies Day was 37,033. Last year 42,789 were at Ballybrit for the Thursday card. The Tote aggregate for today was €960,072.48. Last year they went well-through the magic million mark on €1,237,579.61. In the ring the decline was €2,754,732 down to €2,091,794 this year.

Now if you could get them travellers to go racing and spend their ill gotten gains, wonder where that bell is
Those figures don`t look too bad all things considered.

I would have thought the figures were very poor.A drop in betting of over 20% on last year is disastrous when you consider last year was already 40/50% down on peak.

I was in the ring for Line Drummers race on Monday and whatever money was on that horse came from exchanges,i presume those figures don`t include the laying done by bookmakers on the exchanges.

i was talking to a bookie who was standing in a reasonably prominent pitch.he said he took 90 bets tuesday eve.very hard to make a few quid out of that..
Report Tolmi August 2, 2012 8:17 PM BST
I would have thought ring bookmakers would do relatively little laying on the exchanges because of the non existent margins.

The main general layers on Betfair on Irish racing are the racecourse bookies.
Report Tolmi August 2, 2012 8:42 PM BST
Sorry what I meant was that they would do relatively little laying because of their racecourse business.i.e I don't think they lay horse B because they have laid horse A in the ring.
Any laying they do would not be as a result of their racecourse business just them laying off their own bat.

As a fella said to me today even the knockers are betting now it is gone so quiet
Report wildmanfromborneo August 2, 2012 10:12 PM BST
No knocking here, although try saying that to the Voler backers.
Report lustrumm August 2, 2012 10:16 PM BST
Are not betting that should be.

Another on course layer today told me that today was proof positive it is game over. Great crowd, great racing but no betting going on
