Report wildmanfromborneo July 29, 2012 9:02 PM BST
Puncheatown Pinch Hitter correct and your second correct answer.
Bobbybocala,Workrider has answered lots of questions on these quizzes down the days, when i first started them Ribelaro was in a class of his own and always ignored the easy questions,i put up a quiz on the main forum and both Guinness2dear and Workrider answered plenty of questions when i then put the same quiz up here they both ignored the questions they had already answered and went for others, decent people totally lacking in hubris.

Q1 War of Attrition
Report wildmanfromborneo July 30, 2012 12:56 PM BST
I hope not, that is not the one I had in mind Bassanios already come up with the Ascot Gold Cup winner Rite Of Passage.
Report Bassanio July 30, 2012 1:11 PM BST
War of Attrition did not even compete in bumpers did he?

Not Mouse's style anyway.
Report Bassanio July 30, 2012 1:15 PM BST
15. Grey Swallow
Report Monte Christo July 30, 2012 1:18 PM BST
You're right Bassanio.

Head's not too good today.Bit of a rough night.
Report wildmanfromborneo July 30, 2012 1:19 PM BST
Wager slowly an anagram of Grey Swallow, this fellow is featured in the Racing Posts Memory Lane column today and yes it is still hard to credit that he was backed at 2/1 that day and started 11/8 second favourite.
Report Bassanio July 30, 2012 1:29 PM BST
The only thing about that wildman was that he was racing a full brother to Rock of Gibraltar in the race who had shown promise on his debut.

We now know that all relations of The Rock were useless but it wasn't that apparent at the time.
Report wildmanfromborneo July 30, 2012 1:45 PM BST
I was there and didn't back him and as you say hindsight is a wonderful thing
I think I must be alone in not liking Line Drummers run in Tipperary so have been looking for an alternative and keep coming back to the David Wachman trained Seussical,am going today so will probably try a few sneaky each way bets on him, have a look at his Leopardstown run plenty of promise there.
Report punchestown July 30, 2012 2:03 PM BST
Punchestown your other correct answer was Grainne

Hence my offer Laugh
Report moneypenny July 30, 2012 2:24 PM BST
has to be moon dice i suppose Grin
Report Bassanio July 30, 2012 3:03 PM BST
Would I be right in saying that the  Seussical colours are the original colours of Mrs John Magnier before they acquired the navy blue? AOB trained the horses in these colours when he first started at Ballydoyle?
Report wildmanfromborneo July 30, 2012 10:33 PM BST
Sorry about Seussical.
Moon Dice correct but after me heaping all that praise on you Moneypenny you go and spoil it by picking the low lying fruit.
Report wildmanfromborneo July 31, 2012 9:56 PM BST
Q1.The Gold Cup winner who won his bumper in Galway was trained by a famous jockey whose son now trains.
Q2.This horse won a Galway Plate and was trained by Paddy Sleator,Des O`Connor sang a song about a childhood game with the horses name in it,the Olivia in the clue is a journalist and one time T.V presenter whose second name is the same as the horse.
Q5.The lady who owned three Galway Plate winners was married many times, she later became a trainer and was involved in a controversial disqualification in the then Observer Gold Cup,she trained the Dublin side of Newbridge.

we will see how these go before we give clues for the rest.
Report STELLAR MANIPULATOR July 31, 2012 10:07 PM BST
I am going to chance 'O'Leary' as the answer to q2 !
Report wildmanfromborneo July 31, 2012 10:12 PM BST
O`Leary correct. The Des O`Connor song was 1 2 3 O`Leary, the journalist was Olivia O`Leary, the horse was O`Leary who won the 1976 Galway Plate ridden by Bobby Coonan and trained by Paddy Sleator.
Report Frank The Tank July 31, 2012 10:18 PM BST
5. Anne Brewster
Report wildmanfromborneo July 31, 2012 10:31 PM BST
Anne Biddle or Brewster or More O`Ferral is correct, her maiden name was Bullitt.
Her Galway Plate winners were Amber Point in 1954 and 1956 and Knight Errant in 1957 all trained by Paddy Sleator.

1 dawn run
Report el gato August 1, 2012 5:58 PM BST
her bumper by the way!!
Report wildmanfromborneo August 1, 2012 9:13 PM BST
Well done El Gato you have done it again, come up with a correct answer but not my one.
People will think i am doing it deliberately, asking questions with multiple answers but i can assure ye i am not.
Q1.Gold Cup winner who won his bumper in Galway.
Bassanio weighed in with Rite Of Passage, winner of the Ascot Gold Cup and a Galway bumper,so that answer correct.
I then gave a clue
The Cheltenham Gold Cup winner who won his bumper in Galway was trained by a famous jockey now deceased whose son now trains.
El Gato comes up with Dawn Run trained by Paddy Mullins who is deceased and who has three sons training,so another correct answer.
The famous jockey who later went on to train was not the trainer when this lad won his bumper in Galway,he took over his training shortly after his hurdling started to improve. The trainer is now deceased but his son is training and despite he training a Gold Cup winner is considered very poor especially on this forum.
Report moneypenny August 1, 2012 10:32 PM BST
obviously a horse trained by pat taafe then
can only be captain christy
Report wildmanfromborneo August 3, 2012 2:02 PM BST
Captain Christy correct, trained then by Tom Nicholson.
Q3.What year did Galway race in January
It was the same year that Samuel Shields won the Galway Plate
Q9.Galway handicap winner who won Irish St Leger in the same year.
This lad was owned by Joe McGrath and trained by Seamus McGrath
Q11.Two famous Galway horses were bought by a father and then his son from a father and then his son.
Both fathers trained on the Curragh, both sons inherited their stables, one is a Galway specialist the other is not and despite having a stable full of horses has hardly had a runner this week.
Report workrider August 3, 2012 3:00 PM BST
wildmanfromborneo....sorry if i answered this on another of yours , but is it windsor lad ....?
Report wildmanfromborneo August 3, 2012 3:07 PM BST
Not Windsor Lad much later,he was by Le Levanstall and the owner Joe McGrath was the son of the legendary Joe and brother of Seamus.
Report workrider August 3, 2012 3:58 PM BST
ok i'll try allangrange ...not sure if he was by la levanstall though....
Report wildmanfromborneo August 3, 2012 4:03 PM BST
You never let me down, you always come up with a correct answer and do it from memory.
Allangrange correct won the 1970 Irish St Leger,he certainly was a home bred.
Report workrider August 3, 2012 4:04 PM BST
wildmanfromborneo , maybe you can help me with this , the mcgraths had some smashing horses in the 60s /70s sweet mimosa , desert call , would you believe it i've just remembered my own question the horse i was going to ask about is true rocket ...ridden by george mcgrath...
Report wildmanfromborneo August 3, 2012 4:11 PM BST
They had the best bloodlines in Europe but ruined them by constant use of their own stallions including their big flop Varano, made the same mistake as Anne Biddle
Never thought much of Seamus McGrath as a trainer, when you consider the great horses that went through the stable felt they never realised their full potential. He wasn't a good judge of a jockey either never gave Pat Eddery a ride when he was there.
Report workrider August 3, 2012 4:21 PM BST
tbf pat was only a kid then , as it turned out , it was for the best ...he went on to become a top jockey ...
