22 Runners and 14 Days since last winner.
Of course at the end of the month ,we will still have to listen to rte gravy train passengers gushing praise on "the king of Ballybrit" who no doubt will be feigning modesty.

He'll have about 200 runners (slight exaggeration) and have x amount of winners many at short odds and plenty of supposed 2nd and even 3rd strings.
Following Weld at Ballybrit isn't always a profitable venture, you have to be selective and thats not easy when you're faced with 2 or 3 runners from the stable in many races.
He saddles a lot of favs and many of them get beaten, I haven't got the stats up front but I'd say down the years if you were to follow Weld blind at Galway you'd be in need of a wealth warning?.
I could be wrong but if anyone has the relative stats then feel free to put me right?.

Welds inner need to be crowned the "the King of Galway" has damaged his overall operation seasonwide for the last number of years. Agree with you SG that backing his horses can be precarious but you also need to be very careful laying them as some of his horses will leave all previous form behind them to enable Mr.Weld to be fawned over by Ted and Robert etc.

to save you all the trouble, a bit like the chef showing a mess of ingredients and then miraculously producing the perfect product from underneath the counter, good auld dermo will deliver once again. the prep work may have been messy but these are amongst the gladiators fully armed now for ballybrit.

staying 3 yr old maidens, spirit of concorde, no such number and to a lesser extent encrypted message.
7f/1 mile maidens, harbour side, supernovae, the tad vulnerable quick glimpse, and of course tandem a contender for the shortest jolly of the week, 4/9 i would guess to win its maiden.

a few for the 2 year olds..nabat ali, and mouteab.

and maybe dipping their toes into maiden hurdles, notable graduate and dancers dilemma.

the handicappers have a life of their own, place laying all of them who trade less than evens at the off may return a profit(thats weld handicappers).

Of course he will deliver again.

Leyland can be added to the list.

Treasure the Ridge another that has been a blatant Galway horse.

I hear dermo was not too pleased with stan "moyglare" cosgroves interview with racing post last year, indeed I heard some of the content offered by stan was not printed for fear of offending dk.

I agree about the earlier poster who flagged up Tandem. That looks like a 2y old maiden winner. I think there is a race for it on the Tuesday.

Silvergreaser, DK very rarely has more than one runner per race at Galway. Exceptions being maybe the McDonagh handicap, amateur race on the Monday, or the Hurdle. These were owners want a shot at the big prize. Other than that, it is one selective bullet per race. Agreed, backin them blind would usually yield a loss.

TANDEM is a 3 year old not a 2 year old and runs in a very weak 3/4-y-o Maiden...If EXACT isn't fancied he'll be 4/9 CURA REGIS the only other horse with any hope in that !!

i was just saying it, whatever about coning the handicapper and keeping horses for the festival but even given all that, byrnes et al do the same but welds just leave them for dead time and again. remarkable the amount the winners, truly!

Other trainers such as Byrnes need to pay bills and have to go to the well a bit more often than once a year.

Weld has the luxury of a formidable team of horses and is in a privileged position that he can let them under perform for most of the year, or not run for most of the year, so that he has them ready for Galway.

Very unlucky not to get win number 5 there. Big Break looks a very smart filly based on that run today and a maiden win followed by an appearance in the Moyglare would not surprise at all.
