Looks like we'll have to wait a bit to see the unraced Galileo 'Mars'. Was in the winners of one at Leop' but looks like he has declined that engagement.

What is the relevance of this?

Galileo ran on dirt.
Henrythenav ran on pro-ride
Mars runs on polytrack.

There is a world of difference between what Galileo ran on and what the other surfaces are like and comparisons are completely irrelevant.

I just follow my gut most of the time and the page.

Not entered up in anything bar the Derby and National Stakes. None of these hocus Pocus Group 2 races. Has not been entered in any race this side of Summer hence my feeling he is one of the better but more patience is required with him. They throw out horses half cut most the time in maidens so that for me is another good sign that he isn't being entered up with Dozens of others.

Galileo-Danehill cross. Enough said in reality should be on everyone's list with a brain.

Another thing I look at but its quite objective is where they are entered up. For instance Mars is Dundalk, I don't care how good he is that is a piss poor maiden for me I look  Curragh/Leapardstown/Naas or even Gowran Maidens in recent years. Usually are strong and I like to see plenty of other big stables represented.

Now people will say ah sure Camelot he won a 4 runner maiden at Leapardstown and you put him up last year but of course then you look at the horse with your eye, the way he is ridden, how tenderly he is ridden etc so only race course can validated your view and of course the makeup, his scope his arse his tempremant. How many handlers are with himCool and of course the most important part his nameLaughLaugh.

Ruby,Normally id be with you 100% on that one,But surely you must realise that ground conditions around ireland and the uk for that matter are atrocious at this moment in time, probably the wettest summer we have had in quite some time id say,Mars has also been withdrawn two or three times in recent weeks because of the ground,The all weather at Dundalk provides trainers with a great opportunity to run their baby's on a decent surface without giving them too hard a race or too bad an experience that running them on heavy ground would no doubt do,

Also,Dundalk weekday meetings are few and far between,Have these been added because of the awful summer were currently having?id have thought they were.
Report rubyisgodinthesaddle July 16, 2012 9:10 PM BST
OntheSnaff i perfectly accept that and the norm continues to change and evolve in the world we live in.

However I have yet to see a Dundalk Winner of AOB prove a Group 1 horse. Rememeber Ernst Heminghway only this year? or that Watchman Filly who has in fairness proved a right good horse but for Ballydoyle I do not trust until i see solid evidence.

Another thing OTS, why was Mars Ridden the way he was on a sound surface, If I remember correctly all the potential from that stable from behind, Tenderly ridden hands and heels teach the horse to be within runner to settle etc. and quicken. Piece of work is what AIDAN LOVES TO SPEAK OUT ABOUT

Camelot ridden from in behind the paceCool. I guarntee you that Dei will not be ridden like Mars(but that is only my Opinion) something to bear in mind!. Noting concrete mind you as many love to shoot down my theories etc and argue with little nuances i say but I LOVE
to see my horse(my pick for the year) ridden with confidence like Camelot. You could tell how good he was the way they thought him last year, Mars didnt learn much today bar that he is a good animal but how good?. Camelot for me was the star last year the twinkle in my eye all from being at that sunny Thursday evening.

Its all about gut, he is my gut. We have to wait and see
Report Bassanio July 16, 2012 9:10 PM BST
The fact that he was entered in Newmarket (again this might be ground related) is off putting.

Not many real stars go to England first time. Only Stravinsky springs to mind as a top class horse that debuted in England.
Report rubyisgodinthesaddle July 16, 2012 9:21 PM BST
Even small things. Who bred the horse??

Commonwealth?? who are Commonwealth from my knowledge a Coolmore Holding Company. Why has the mare Last Love simply been off the radar? I don't remember anything by her so far.

Who bought yearling from the Dam's DAM DAM Rose Red back in the Celtic Tiger days? Well it was only Mr Maginer 240,000 for Charles O Brien, never ran, Rose Pompadour useless by Mr David Watchman

Summer Flight from the Dams Dam Summerosa who bought her? Mr John Magnier in training with the Sangster family with John Gosden. The dam Last Love bought by once again Mr John Magnier and in training with Aidan O Brien.

Kept at Coolmore in Ireland for this long at 11 years of age despite never even having a runner on the course, and having one foal by Fusachi Pegasus that made 300k. Why did it make 300k with such a average page race wise? Produced good stock, good walker and scopey type I would imagine.

So is it likely that Dei is a good walker? a good stock? My guess is yes but its a educated guess
Report OnTheSnafff July 16, 2012 9:29 PM BST
Good point ruby,But the only thing id say regarding how or why he made all today is possibly because he was drawn very wide,But i take your point,Wouldn't imagine Mars would have learned much having done it from the front,i'd be very wary in backing him for the Derby tbh,Far too early to determine if he's anywhere near good enough,

i'm sure aidan has one or two better 2 yo's in his yard,as i said earlier,i liked how The Ferryman shaped up,No idea if he's good enough to win a Derby but im pretty sure he will be a Group 1 horse in the not too distant future.

What did you make of "The United States" recent debut ruby?
Report rubyisgodinthesaddle July 16, 2012 9:40 PM BST
Now the Ferryman was a very interesting runner and a very well named horse IMO as i did frequent that pub a lot during my student days for a late night tipple. It got what i call the Seamie special, buried mid pack, very keen, no interest in getting him to settle per say as to get him running within horses. Then look what happens let the winner get first run 4-5l ahead of him at Dundalk of all courses is very hard to make back. Not touched the whip, the the Chicken Elbows job all the way home pushing him up and out not driving him, prob due to his greeeness. Stays on past beaten horses and the boys with the notebooks are out. Better type of Galileo, bigger for me. Mars doesnt look scopey, The Ferryman has plenty of scope for me eye.

Well what was the point in that many will argueCool. Money was down on Mars, best horse won on the day but The Ferryman given a lovely ride as they call it down at Fethard. Should absoutlely bolt up in a maiden next time. Galway 7f Maiden up with the pace, reach for that uphill ground and wins 5l for meCool.

With The United States another well named horse, Jesus they are doing well this yearLaugh. Didn't see the race but won on debut, related to fire lily..... half brother. Looks good but screams a Cape Blanco type. An grinder, he is also the spitting image of him to boot. One to head to France possibly next year to grind out a few Group 1's from the front. They have to have a few sexier than him.
Report rubyisgodinthesaddle July 16, 2012 9:49 PM BST
Another interesting point will be the betting on The Ferryman at Galway. With Weld likely to have a fav early Morning, late evening AOB will be smashed up. Be a typical money on at all prices job.

Theatre nobody is mentioning, I thought he put up the best performance so far of all Coolmore's Juveniles. Plenty of scope with him.
Report OnTheSnafff July 16, 2012 9:51 PM BST
Very well said ruby, agree with all of that,The united states had to battle for his win,Be interesting to see how that form works out,As himself and the oxx horse pulled well clear of the remainder.

Doesn't necessarily make Mars run look that much better as this was the horse that was ridden in a manner that could not result in a win and one that looked like he would progress a lot.
