Spin thats what it is Enda says a"seismic shift", Gilmore says "gamechanger", and Noonan adds"a new way forward", well its all spin and it it beyond belief that they the 3stooges of Irish politics are throwing out falsehoods that "we want to be able to get back to the markets". Why would Ireland ever want to get back borrowing from the markets at somewhere between 6.8% and 7%, when Ireland can borrow from its current lenders the Troika at something over 3%. Just put yuorself in this scenario, you need to borrow a few grand, Banks say they give it to you at 7% but your friendly Credit Union will let you have what you need at 3%, where will you borrow your money. I'm just really sick of all this bluff and stupid spin, when we the taxpayers are carrying the can for the Bankers and the Speculators. Noonan says there will be no ease in the budget for the average Irish citizen known as a PAYE worker. And no sign of anyone of our banking brethren facing an old charge.
Seems you are allergic to good news. Yesterday's developments should be positively welcomed by any rational observer.
There are numerous signs that things are beginning to turn around -the overall debt burden is being eased -Job losses have stabilised -Company failures are down significantly -the housing market is at or near the bottom of the cycle -Tourism is poised to register another increase this year -especially with favourable rates for the pound and the dollar -personal insolvency is now being tackled in a concerted way -the e/voting machines are hostory -no more money wasted storing these relics of foolishness -there's a prospect of more oil and gas finds being made -the National Children's hospital is due to be started up fairly soon
The public finances have to be balanced after the appalling irresponsibility of Ahern and McCreevy. Progress is being made -one more big heave in the next budget and things should become a little more tolerable after that. I remain optimistic that the country has enough mettle and resolve to stay the course.

Obviously not everyone understands last weeks aid package to both Italy and Spain. Actually Ireland and Enda got nil. All they got was a politicians promise that Irelands situation as regards the huge Bank debt would be looked at.Period. Now if thats good news to some well then there probably is a basic lack of understaning involved, but thats ok as Enda+Gilmore didn't understand it themselves. Now perhaps this is also seen as good news........ One week ago yesterday Irish Nationwide Building Society (owned by us taxpayers) paid out in euros two bonds total 600,000,000, followed by Anglo on last Tues.+Wed. 500,000,000 to bondholders. Two zombie busted banks paying out Irish Taxpayers money to losers. It doesn't matter that these Bonds were unguaranteed, unsecured now does it, so enjoy this bit of good news. For some reason the present Government under Enda and Gilmore didn't mention this. Yet these guys promised transparency in Government, and honesty.. Labours way or Frankfurts way (Gilmore) not another cent to the banks (Varadakar). Mayo Hospital wont close (Enda), 2nd bailout (Bruton), no rise in College fees, and let me guarantee that heres my signature (Quinn), pay your household charge and your septic (thanks Hogan) or we will follow you to the grave, could go on all day, and I would love some good news, now for a change. The weather oops but sher thats good news to some

Think you might have forgotten that it was your party caused it with Bertie(why don't they commit suicide)Ahern at the helm.A small bit of balance in your posts would not go astray. The memory of your two Ministers nodding in agreement about there being no need for a bailout while the IMF were already in place will live with me til I die.

Actually you're probably right Jay ... We'd have a much better chance with a cabinet which would include ..... Taoiseach: M Martin (supported Ahern and Cowan and learned a lot from them) Tanaiste + Min For Foreign Affairs : G Adams ( talk Gaelic to everyone -so no one knows what's going on) Min for Finance : J Higgins ( All taxes abolished -rich philanthropists fund the exchequer) Min for Education : M L McDonald ( new curriculum in rewriting history guaranteed) Min for Environment and Natcheral Resources : L Flanagan ( no better man to tell Europe to bog off) Min for Suppression of joie de vivre : C Daly ( A daily sorrowful moan is good for the soul)
Clearly jobs would have to be found for such luminaries as M Wallace , C Murphy , M O'Sullivan . Otherwise we might run short of hypocrites who say no to everything.
It would be happy days indeed .

Its a pity that the two previous posters completely miss the point. The last Goverment of Fianna Fail, Greens, and Mary Harney were voted out of office because they completely failed us the Irish public. This newGoverment of Fianna Gael and Labour were voted into office (with a huge majority),on the back of promises to be, open, transparent, and clean up the mess caused by the previous lot.No more corrupt practises essentially. The Enda Kenny/Gilmore Government also promised to (a) increase mortgage interest relief for those in negative equity (b)put pressure on Banks to squeeze their own costs before they squeezed their own customers (3)on the jobs front a new state body called NewEra would pump 18billion in to infrastructure over a four yr period....and loads more promises all made to win votes and all broken, some broken days after being in office. Also promised to bring those that were the cause of Irelands woes to account. Now today in England with the Barclays Bank corrupt practises disclosed Mr. Diamond has been stood down and must explain himself before a number of serious committees this week. Now how long is it since Seanie+Fingers et al were found out ?

I have not missed the point at all.Your constant sniping at the current government while glossing over the massive failures of the previous government shows a lack of balance and an inability to be objective in your posts.I passed no comment on the performance of the current government.

Once again your totally missing the point. What can the failed government of Ahern,in the 1st instant, and Cowen do today. Dam all only sit back and draw their massive pensions.Do they care a hoot? Unlikel. The Kenny/Gilmore Government swept into office on the promise of change. Honesty, transparency,no double standards,to root out corruption, tackle the Seanad, take on the bankers, etc., etc., Frankfurts way or Labours way. Theres been no change. A shocking indictment of Kenny/Gilmore and their crews, same diiference, all feathering their own nests, after the big fat salaries/pensions, the rich food (see Noonan), and dam the taxpayer, especially the PAYE sector. And make sure we pay all unsecured bondholders who did their dough.

Resign immediately Minister, you obviously cant manage your own affairs, so how the hell can you manage a Ministerial portfolio ? Go now, please. Is it any wonder they all kept quiet on Mick Wallace with this coming. Also surely a conflict of interest with the Health Minister owner of a Nursing Home. Does conflict of interest matter at all in this Country ? And we know the previous shower were corrupt, but this lot are even worse. Resign now, minister.

Excellent points Jay. The current government has indeed done much more damage in 15 months than the Fianna Fáil led maladministrations did in the previous 14 years. I can't see much of a future for the country unless FF are restored to power with all speed. They will need at least 20 years I reckon to undo the mess being created by the present crowd. Maybe when Mr. Cowen completes his Stanford course he could be prevailed on to lead the party to a triumphamt return to government. Do we desrerve anything less ?

Once again vubiant you totally miss the point. You seem allergic to,transparency, honesty, and cant get your head around conflict of interest at all. Enda Kenny promised an open transparent regime, an honest Government, but all this went out the window once these guys grabbed power You also seem content to be governed by clowns.

Wouldn't think Tommy Cruise would be interested in this little bust country however if Sinn Fein get power its because of the failings of both Fianna Fail and Fianna Gael,(same difference), its them that really are giving the chance to Adams +co. We voted for change and we get more of the same.
