Forecasts for the week suggest the view the world gets of the Irish Open will be a sea of gaily coloured golf umbrellas , caddies towelling club handles , squelchy fairways , cowering galleries and soggy greens.SadCry At least it doesn't look like being too windy.
But let's hope the Irish Big 4 - Rory , Padraig , Graeme and Darren ( not to mention Michael,Damien,Shane, Peter and Paul)can help banish the gloom.Grin

Hoey and Branden Grace my 2 plays so far - Powers went up at a ludicrous 66/1 on Grace which i nabbed some of, a more realistic price now

If those are the conditions then Harrington is a near certainty, who can forget his second round in Birkdale he thrives on harsh conditions.Darren Clarke who appears completely gone at the game might also revel in conditions he loves on a course he knows better than anyone.
Can you do forecasts in golf,i need this to come up to get me out of trouble.

Are the conditions going to be that harsh? Given a choice between wind & rain, pros would proabably choose the latter. Rain, as long as its not torrential, means softer fairways & greens, less awkward bounces, more control. Maybe suit McIlroy more than Harrington but just guesswork really. Scoring will be low enough though i'd wager, plenty of birdies most of the days

Can,t imagine you being in trouble,Wildman, you cannot do a f/c.
Maybe 4 x dbs your two with Tiger and K.J Choi who are past winners of the AT+T in America?

It was my last ever lay, vowed many a time never to lay again but that looked too good to be true.
Rarely bet on Golf but definitely will punt Harrington, breaking an old rule of mine never punt something you are cheering for.Think Tipperary will win the Hurling but don`t want to punt them as i will be so happy with them winning need no financial interest, does anyone else think that way.
It is down to you Deplasterer and Huddys that i am punting on Golf but have that sinking feeling i have missed the boat,ye made it look so easy.

Wildman taking that further a very good friend of mine bets against all the things he wants to happen.

He made a right few quid though during Euro 2012 backing against Ireland.

I'll be having a decent bet on Harrington this week in the hope he can put it all together.

Savers on McGinley & Hoey.

Probably add another before it starts.

If there is wind at Portrush the scores will not be that low .  The greens are big , running at 12 today I was told  , saw balls landing pin high at Calamity finishing off the green ( just ) , short , 2 putts away .  Only 2 was a 30 yard pitch in . And all this with no pressure .

Rough not too punitive , but if it blows and the PGA get their way with 12 plus watch out for some big scores .

First hole is the longest looking 410 yarder I have ever seen  , uphill to a  tiered green ...  Knee knocker to start .

Harrington is really something else .
Playing well -he gets a lucky break at his second last hole -poor drive -poor second and chips in from the rough for birdie to go 5 under.
Then a monster drive at his last (par 5). He has only 145 yds for his second shot -but goes for the flag and ends up short on the fringe. Then goes for the eagle , blows it 5 ft, past and misses . Walks off with a farcical par,
Why the hell can't he take his easy birdie and go in at 6 under ...it's only the first round .

Incidentally -how can you call a hole a par 5 if you can play a wedge for your second ? Even amateurs are eagling them.

Deplasterer
When: 28 Jun 12 12:50
Pod is Pod you know Vubiant, he's a rollercoaster ride every week, not for the fainthearted.
By:
wildmanfromborneo
When: 28 Jun 12 12:51
The last was frustrating but Harrington is in a lovely position probably a few off the lead and what i call loitering with intent.
Agree with Vubiant about hitting a wedge for your second means it isin`t a par five, how longwas his drive.
By:
pa lapsy
When: 28 Jun 12 12:55
Think they mentioned his drive on the last as 345yds,poor finish alright, suppose still gives you a chance to go in again.
