Oh dear !

Along with the handpassing that is one of the major problems with Gaelic football .

A very poor display from the ref. A farcical number of bad calls.

Terrible that players put in such a lot of effort and are legislated over by someone who looks like he's on a day out .

At least the better team overall didn't lose.

As a Down supporter I must admit I would have backed Monaghan heavily in / around the half time mark .  Thought they were home and dried , Down were woeful , some of their defenders were running away from their man after they had tried to contain them . Add in a useless referee and we were going nowhere .

Second half was the complete opposite , Monaghan seemed to be unable to cope with their first half superiority , and became hermit crabs  who ceded the breaking ball to Down . Plus they squandered some useful posession which could have given them a cushion .

Tyrone in particular would not be worried by playing Down in the final , jury still out on Donegal in this house , awaiting developments . Nobody in Dublin , Cork or Kerry worried by what they saw today .

Thought that was as poor a refereeing performance as is possible to see. At least the team that was on the wrong end of his incompetance managed to win in the end. Players put so much in nowadays and when it comes to the big days are in the hands of a clown like that.

what if anything will happen over it?surely mick curley and his gang will have been watching?.how did a ref as incompetent as him rise to the standard required for senior intercounty football?.as far as i know theres a grading system and people find their level etc.

He is around 37......I'd say he is reffing about 20 years........probably 16/17 years  at intercounty level.
