These three muskateers, well especially Gilesey+Dunphy are a joke at this stage. There was once a time long long ago when they seemed to be the best analyists about but that was a world ago.
Now they are clueless, and Gilsey is a complete joke at this stage, cant even rememember or probably even bother to read up on the players names clubs etc.Last night he was calling the Cheq striker the "small fellow" until one of the other guys named him for Gilesey. I wonder what Roy Keane said about Ronaldo, now that would be of some interest.......... |
|
By:
Giles is obsessed with players who are "honest" and "hard-working" etc. As far as he is concerned, that is what makes good players. He has no time for the fancy playmakers of today's game.
Dunphy just sets his stall out early about whether he thinks a player is good or not and refuses to change his mind. He spent 10 years telling everybody what a crap keeper Peter Schmeichel was! They're still better than BBC or ITV but it is becoming a joke at this stage. |

i think u need yre hearing tested m8.they didnt say ronaldo is not a great player, they simply pointed out his flaws, sometimes lazy, not tracking back, petulant etc.if u ever played a team sport?that type of behaviour can get on yre fcking tits.anyway as ronaldo gets older and more mature,i think those flaws will disappear.as for giles,he might be an old fart but is the best football analyst on tv by a long way
|
|
By:
dunphy was creaming a quarter of a millback in 2009 out of rte giles not far behind,i shudder to think how much there on now. IF i paid my tv licence i'd be livid.
|

By:
I played team sports for years and it never bothered me once when I didn't chase back!
Wasn't my job to stop the other team scoring, there was 10 other players for that. |
|
By:
Giles is far from being the best analyist, and imho is still stuck in the 1960's a bygone era, he has failed to understand how the modern game has progressed, and and he couldn't name 11 players from the premiership

Its a cultural matter.
The Celt/Anglo Saxon cannot come to terms with the overt arrogance and preening of the Latino. |
|
By:
If Giles, Dunphy and Brady had their way all games would end up boring 0-0 draws.
Good forward play is usually down to poor defending, good defending is usually down to poor forward play and all goals are down to poor goal keeping, and nearly every referee is blind, having said all that I quite enjoy them for some odd reason?. |

i never saw the interview..but ronaldo..is a fine player and on his day is world class...but he is another primadonna..have you noticed how they are always looking at the big screen when on the pitch to see how they look?..when living up here (north west) there were rumours..about him batting for the other side..(i have no problem with that) but i would,nt be surprised as he is in love with himself...

No doubt when it comes to been narcissistic Ronaldo would give Matt Chapman and Warren Beatty a run for their money, love him or loathe him there's no denying he's a superb footballer.

Ronaldo does like the women
and has def. one child |
|
By:
What he does off the field is not relevant.
He is a sensational player and as the opening poster said, is second only to Messi in terms of the best player in the world. The crazy price Real paid for him has proved to be a bargain. Dunphy is the Spanish football expert apparently because he drinks Rioja and watches Barca matches. They are a joke of a panel yet if if we do not cough up €160 to pay their scandalous wages, we will be prosecuted. |

when richie sadlier said he was too young to remember Maradona and asked the others if he tracked back they both gave very unconvincing no's. The truth is nobody saw enough of Maradona ( and certainly not Pele) to know if they chased back or not. wWatch the highlights of any game pre 1990 and a lot of the defenders were like traffic cones compared to the athletes of today ( even richard dunne ). Every time Ronaldo got the ball in space you could see raw power and athleticism. Why risk breaking a leg tackling back there are plenty of defenders and defensive midfielders to do that.He is still no Mesi though.
As for Giles and Dunphy they increasingly sound like they dont like football . Lawrenson sounds like he hates his job. |

Agree with critic here, far less space in the modern game for the creative players in the modern game, the likes of Essien at his peak was a monstrous athlete for a creative midfielder to face, always in your face never stopping. The panel actually loves creative midfield players, Iniesta, Xavi, Modric and pirlo, They are always stating how great these players are and rightly so.
It is wingers who don't track back who they rail against, I'd reckon Ronaldo is best off not tracking back in any case, he needs to keep fresh for when he is needed in the final third. Also when he stands up at the top of the pitch, it stops the opposition defence from stepping up as they know he will kill them over the top. He is a greatplayer and the best athlete in world football as well, amazing player second only for Messi, his achievements speak for themselves. Don't change a thing Ronny. One thing I'd disagree with though, I think Iniesta is just as great a player as Ronaldo, he plays a different position but is the equal of anyone I've ever see play midfield. he does everything Xavi does, but even higher up the field and at cuter angles, hate saying one is better than the other but I think Iniesta has surpassed Xavi who is a little on the downslope. |
|
By:
ffs, nel d always bringing in irrelavant drivel ,ya boring old git.soccer is a team game and ronaldo like every1 else on the team has a responsibility to defend when the opposition have the ball, thats a fcken given, its dosent matter how good he is.

By:
I respectfully disagree

|
By:
BTW what I said was related as someone mentioned he was the best player in the world bar Messi, i was merely stating that iniesta is as good a player, just in a diffreent position, Iniesta also works like a dod as well if that is your thing.

One poster saying Giles is a great pundit needs to have a word with themselves. Can't even get the players names right. Admits to not knowing about european football. It that not your job. They just dont like Ronaldo. Didnt from the start and they are just to stubborn to change.
A man who scores 60 goals plus a season and who at Real does track to be targeted like they do just shows how petty and stubborn they are. Dunphy made some great points about the ireland team at the end of the tournament. But to keep the hatred up of Ronaldo just seems petty and pathetic. We all know he's a total legend. Second only to Messi. Xavi/Iniesta are top draw. Best center midfielders of there era. You could say they equal Ronaldo. They probably do. I love the both of them. Just masters of their craft. Ronaldo is a master of his craft. His job is to score goals and haunt defenders. He does that. Tracking back is probably not his job but for Real he does it. These dinosaurs just won't admit they are wrong. I won't ever watch again. BBC is so cliched. But at least it celebrates the good things about the game. I want to see the Messi's and Ronaldo's of this world. Players who excite who make the hairs on your head stand up. Honesty is a great attribute as Giles would say. Ronaldo works as hard as anyone. He does it in the business end. He busts a gut to get on the end of things etc etc. The game has changed. Giles just does not want to listen. Dunphy knows he is wrong but is to much of a coward and to be honest a total muppet to admit it. Never will i watch rte again. Rather listen to cliche bbc or itv. Is not great but at least they celebrate the good in football. |

for poster who mentioned roy keane, well keane was full of praise for ronaldo, gave him the credit he deserves,as were other pundits on the show.

Bill said there about Schweinsteiger saying being German Captain was tiring!! They chat about it for a few minutes, until Didi points out that Philipp Lahm is German captain
![]() |
|
By:
Dunphy said Germany aren't up to much and shouldn't be so fancied to win the competition. He seriously asked where are the quality players Germany have? Spain have Xavi and Iniesta, Portugal have Ronaldo, England have Rooney and Italy have Cassano.
Cassano? Cassano is a talent who has flatered to deceive at the very top level. He has played for Roma, Real and Milan and done very little. He is a player who missed 4 months due to suffering health problems and he is Eamon's idea of a world class player. He has played his best football a stone and a half over weight and has fallen out with plenty of coaches. I'll take my chances with Ozil instead. |
|
By:
Rooney?
|
|
By:
I was quoting what Dunphy said,
imo Rooney is a very good player who is capable of brilliance but one England have not overly missed and he is more then a little overrated by some. Englands best attacker by a mile though. But he is at another level to Cassano. |
