Report slickster June 21, 2012 10:40 PM BST
40 odd hours before race time? with rain all over the place?

There are usually strong reasons for dropping into a claimer,and even if it wins half the track let it run away, as JP McManus has said "there's always another race".

He still travels very well in his races, I think he pisses this tbh. i wouldn't think Fahy would want to lose him, he used to think very highly of him, there was talk of Listed races when he won the Lincoln consolation in 2010.

Think I'll do Aiken tomorrow at Ascot as well, going in e/w at 4's, he handles Ascot soft really well and that is a funny surface.

AIKEN HAS A REAL SHOT IN HARDWICKE STAKES

AIKEN (41) made a successful transition to pattern company when winning a mile and a half Listed race at ascot by ten lengths. He rolled clear in the closing stages to score by ten lengths.

Aiken clocked a time 2.7 seconds faster than the other mile and a half race on the card. And he covered the last six furlongs in the same time as the winner of that race. This indicates he put up a lifetime best performance here that was good enough to win the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes over the same course and distance next month.

I don't see any good reason why Aiken shouldn't handle faster ground. Indeed he already has when winning a hot little handicap at Sandown.

From Richard Fahey's column on SportingLife.com;

Irish Heartbeat is a very hard horse to win with. He has plenty of ability but runs well one day and badly the next for no apparent reason. He runs in the Ladies' And Gents Evening - 25th August Claiming Stakes at Redcar and back in claiming company I'd like to think he'll very nearly win but he isn't one I'd be putting my house on.

Make of that what you will. Good luck whatever you do.
