I have long disliked this writer with his Disney world culture and politically correct views, yesterdays offering is up there with some of his other beauties.
For hyperbole this sentence wins the watch " the last week has been one of the great unmitigated disasters in Irish sporting history " he then goes on to say this team will probably be the worst to ever play in a European Championship conveniently forgetting there is a match to go,he however covers this by stating " from our point of view that game is meaningless whatever happens " a definite each way merchant. His sneering at the Irish fans seems now par for the course, would he prefer a bit of rioting or maybe a crescendo of boos.
His piece on Teofilo Stevenson contained this gem " there is little doubt the great Cuban would have had Ali`s number had he turned professional in 1976 " a huge doubt in my opinion a man who had only ever boxed over three rounds might not have the stamina for a longer fight plus the fact that Stevenson so intimidated his amateur opponents they either feigned injury or threw in the towel.George Foreman intimidated his opponents as well but he encountered a man who rose above that in Zaire,Ali he would have destroyed Stevenson.
