yes it true, sad alright but at the end of the day, they didnt have a big fanbase to survive in the league of ireland, always taught they were a junior club playing in the league of ireland, the fai must have question to answer with given them a licence for this year

LOI needs to have some sort of geographical structure to it if its ever to survive. Its a joke that 3 of our 5 major cities have no team in the premier league

gant our cushy public sector employee will be along soon to put the boot into poor auld Monaghan and the lads who lost their jobs today.

mons on merit knocked sligo out of the cup in the last round. with their demise, what happens? do sligo get a reprieve in the cup and replace mons in the next round or if the draw has been made do the next opponents get a bye?
Report Bassanio June 18, 2012 7:17 PM BST
I believe Sligo do not get back in.

Looks like a bye for Monaghan's opponents.

Hope Delaney is enjoying himself while the latest chapter in the complete falling apart of the League of Ireland is unfolding.

Few weeks ago, Roddy was saying that there was only around 150 at one of their League games, before they did well in the last few games.  Not a surprise to hear they have pulled out with gates like that.

Monaghan beat us fair and square so have no issue by us not being let back in !

Rocketfingers, I get no pleasure is seeing a sport go downhill..........Greyhound racing is gone the same and worse is to come..........I here Dundalk are in a fair mess also.
Report joe9000 June 18, 2012 10:57 PM BST
joke how much of a mess the league is turning in2. Mons only got to prem after beating gufc, who themselves were in a financial mess. if only half of all the irish fans that were so happy 2 go 2 poland on the beer, were that worried bout going supporting their local team each week i'm sure it wud help the league out no end....they mite b surprised how similar the quality of play was also, judged on our woeful showing at Euros.
Report huddys June 19, 2012 7:28 PM BST
very good post joe,its a joke the way were been called the best fans in the world, when most of the people over for the euros would have more interest in following say man utd or liverpool than supporting a league of ireland team
