yea went out to watch the game sunday ...backed the 0-0 draw got no run for my money ..thought ireland would have been better considering all the talk about them...hopefully they will get some result thursday night..things are so bad economically for everyone any **** of light from any sport would be welcome and provide a brief lift from emigration,loan arrears,Travellers robbing everywhere etc...

Very much doubt that Gant unless they want to be in the football family. Most GAA people would be cheering against the national team, i know for a fact that there were plenty of GAA clubhouses around the country with Croatian flags, these will be changed to Spanish and then Italian. They are doing the same in lodges up North i believe.

Rocketfingers , the "lodges" up here are so intent at the moment in assembling pallets and tyres for the traditional "bonies" they have not time to get involved in antiflag waving .

The only ones interested in a fairly lost cause up here are the publicans and the  die hard soccer supporters ( still a few ) who are missing their weekly fix on the game . And the weather is conspiring to make the Euro soccer the event of the day as far as overall sports fans are concerned .

Plus the Olympics hype has yet to take off , not surprised though on that , everything to date on that score has been below par from ticket allocation to non information as to where the Olympic torch was actually going to be in its recent travels . Maybe the Derry idiots had something to do with that though .

Hopefully the US Open will give us a bit of a lift !

Just heard the ITV commentator say "tomorrows game , Spain vs Ireland  , promises to be a cracker ( or words to that effect) " . Really?  Would have thought Spain would not be turning in their beds tonight with worry .

I plan to go to one of the local watering holes for this one. Should be good but could get nasty not sure they'll take to kind to an Irish football fan coming into their manor drinking their beer, pulling their women and hopefully leaving with all 3 points as well lol. The last one is out of my hands but the other two will happen (No offer it would be priced as).

Any Sligo lads in the soccer team.........Sad to see a city as big as Galway only getting 150/200 at their soccer matches.

I suppose lads have to think of their futures as the loi wages these days aint what they were back in the day.
Some journeymen made a right killing leaving some clubs in a right financial mess.
Meath footballer Graham Reilly played at a decent level in England and would have been above average in the loi......a few clubs wanted him but he was advised to get a job.

In Meath we are lucky and the same lads play GAA and Soccer........GAA in the summer and Soccer or Rugby in the winter...........Rugby is taking the Soccer lads of late as the have better facilities, showers, dont play at 11 on a Sunday morning.......The FAI do little to give local soccer a dig out and the majority who play have never been to a loi match.

Why do the loi play during the summer months and not the normal soccer season like in other countries.
