with you on that one punchy,..i think with a clear round it will go close..also just wondering has anyone got any insight to why d.wachman has sent a 2yr old over to ponty tonight for a maiden?

funny, i take the polar opposite view. russell robbed 5 lengths at the start at ballinrobe on fast ground and despite clattering a few fences he got a freebie especially with the bull hayes blundering badly 3 out and spoiling his chance. today he has another front runner in baily green to contend with and 3 potential closers. also it is raining heavily at 1.30 in roscommon and i feel the course will ride close to yielding..yielding to soft and the last time absolutly ran on the terrain at gowran he failed to raise a gallop. the more it rains tonight the more likely he will be closer to 2/1 at the off. i expect him to make mistakes, spit the dummy out and weaken tamely in the home straight... he is my win and place lay of the night, and his performance determines the p/l for the day.

10mm after falling on the track, track manager now reckons it will ride closer to soft than anything else.  Hope this is of use.

Good to Soft - Flat Course .Good - NH Course. 10mm of rain this afternoon. Rain has now ceased

Difficult to see the NH course still being good after that much rain.

well spotted tony-hadn't registered on my radar.

One of Wachman's biggest non-Coolmore clients during the boom was the developer Joe Joyce and I imagine he still retains some connection here. Joyce owned the grandam of Awakened Spirit at one stage; she had been a 100k yearling purchase for French connections (poor track runner) and I think Joyce bought her privately as a broodmare.

Joyce put a Johannesburg filly foal out of the mare into training with Wachman in 2007 but Rajani was no good. Another foal was trained by Harrington but she was equally devoid of ability.

Awakened Spirit (bred by Joyce) is Rajani's second foal and the first foal never ran. The pedigree page now resembles myself - a little light on top - but one aspect catches my eye. Awakened Spirit is by Fracas who was a five-time 10f winner for Joyce and Wachman and included wins in two classic trials (group-level) and he was 4th in Motivator's 2005 Derby. Joyce took the somewhat unusual step of retiring Fracas (by In The Wings & a €100,000 yearling-family of Oasis dream and Sorbus who was disqualified in an Oaks) to his own Cahermorris Stud in Galway in 2009. Fracas has his first runners this year and Wachman's runner is possibly his first ever performer in public. Given the mood of the country at present its not unusual to see the horse carrying new colours.

Awakened Spirit is due to line up at 6.50pm in a Pontefract auction event this evening and is trading around the 3/1 mark (and generally weak). It will be surprising if there's not some support later on especially with Lordan travelling over.

Its off,has been called off since before 11.The local business people have told the track not to call it off officially until as late as possible. They want to keep the visitors in town until lunch time.

WD Keen Leader, horse not good enough on the night, surface looked to be holding enough considering the ground description of good to soft.Maybe Casey shouldn't have been allowed so much rope but it didn't make any difference in the end as the fav couldn't even hold second spot on the run in.

This evening's meeting at Roscommon has been cancelled.

The card was the second of a two-day fixture, with Monday's opening Flat action taking place on soft ground and the jumpers tackling good to soft going.

However, heavy rain has fallen since then, leaving the track unfit for racing.
