Agree with Eddie batt.....horse had a very hard race yesterday......carberry was damn lucky not to be brought in for excessive use.....that horse won't be seen for a while,could take him 6 months to get over it.......Eddie is an experienced racereader.....he knows.....

I wouldn't be the best racereader but there are some horses I take an unnatural interest in -Silverhand would be one of those horses.

Byrerley - I've had Meritorious on my "to back" list for the past 18 months, just waiting for the right conditions but horse definitely has more ability than they've allowed him to show so far.

As the other thread says - not just JP in Ireland, there's plenty of examples of races in the UK when a lesser jockey, say Stopper has ridden one and it's been out the back a few times, lowly rated and McCoy up with the cash down and you're away, off comes the handbrake.

Thanks Workrider - couldn't get on for a few months (think I overstepped the line and was banned tho unsure).  Good to be back though and just in time for the proper racing

proper racing is right ..just thinking about the rspca and their seemingly constant need to interfere with horse racing , and the welfare of the horse ..hide the evidence , an 11 yo winning a flat race ..showing that horses love racing ....

there are too many individuals "compromised" within the irish game so an even playing field will never exist. stipes with a "past", acting stewards who of course have been beneficiaries via the sales ring as many as breeders and so on. the small fish are the hunted when it comes to integrity.

i prefer to watch the uk racing unfold, and things are not much better there. not all of the jpm plots work out, thats for sure, i would say the team were most proud of 2 special preps, namely storm survivor( the prescott stardard tactics), and number one sundown trial (got him handicapped in both codes until they cleaned up at ayr). you could say that valley view was clever, maybe, in his case the uk chase handicapper probably deserved to have his position reviewed. during this summer, coffee, was the standout, his 4th at stratford a disgrace, thats my view.

if you follow the historic pattern of significant gambling owners over the decades, there is a discernible trend...it all ends in tears...maybe that was before the advent of laying on exchanges...though it is hard to beat history.

Agree WR - Guillaume Macaire won a XC Chase in France the other week with a 14yo (I think) who'd won 3 races before 9/11 to put how long he's been around into perspective. 

RSPCA should stick to what they're good at - fluffy campaigns featuring puppies and leave the proper stuff to those who know.

ST was a classic Keen Leader - problem is when you're giving Stewarding jobs to ex-jockeys they're always going to have sympathy with the current bunch and view it as "all part of the game" so to speak.  Same is true with the broadcasters - with the ex-jockeys never saying anything negative about a ride whilst those who know (the ex-Timeform mob, race readers and the like) are shot down for "not understanding" race ridng etc.

i thought i would look at the runners for this season(2012/13) which have so far run in the uk in the green/yellow hoops.

65 runners earnings 132,000, lets say 2k average earnings. no more than 15 of the 65 have a racing post rating of 120 or above( i dont have time to cross check the bhb ratings). lets say 20% are better than average, the 120 mark the barometer. 80% poor to below average.

if we take those 65 uk runners this season, they have about 180 appearances, perhaps someone who like to crunch the numbers and take into account training fees, transport, entries, riding fees and i wonder what is the net loss after deducting the winnings, not to mention the acquistion cost for the animals in the first place?

kl what about the laying of same animals that get beaten having educationals?im not saying for a min its jp but someone knows what to do and are making good money out of them..

Dreamsoftheatre may not be running on a full tank of gas kl but I suspect he's an overpriced winner of a bad 4yo maiden run up north. It looked a bad race and it rarely throws up anything useful.

My take is that they overpaid for the sire King's Theatre at £47,000 stg (assuming its a genuine sale) so this horse will be standing them sixty grand before they try to win an upside down handicap worth 2k. I know people will say that backing or laying may be where they will try to recoup but I just cant see it. There surely wont be too many mugs out there to lay a JP special unless theyre prepared to risk it at very short odds. O'Neill's record is probaly patchy at best when the handbrake is off.

As I'm not a heavy punter I can never separate the myths from reality e.g. owners landing touches to pay training bills; getting on early/late, trainers needing the occasional betting top up or, as kavvie suggests, laying what are effectively rags (this wont have been a hill of beans for Dreamsofthetre's last two runs)

amazing the liquidity in the markets every day in egg and spoon races(both win and place markets)mill in win markets and 400k in place markets common place.it would be easy take 10/20k quietly

I think Micks can be added to the list finally. He was one of the first horses that came to mind when I originally saw this thread.

It probably does not quite come within the title of this thread but running Cantlow on his chase debut over a trip patently short of his optimum seems unusual to say the least.It will be interesting to see what type of race he goes for when he is stepped up to 3 miles.Ran very weel today.

Tornado is a tramp and he wouldn't have beaten the first two over that trip in a month of sundays but it was at the very least a poor ride.

i was at aintree two weeks ago when he ran,one of the most blatent non jiggers you will see this season,it has to be seen to be believed,
i was stood at the winning post and the horse came from another parish to finish 4th after been held up miles of the pace and it honestly looked like he had just joined in the race he was that full of energy.
