would be entirely appropriate for those lowlifes who assaulted and robbed two men in their 80s in their home last night .
Attacks like this on the defenceless elderly are as nauseating as those on children.
A proper legal/justice system would impose such penalties as would dissuade any would-be perpetrators that it really isn't worth the risk.
Did I hear this morning that a guy got 5 years for killing his best friend in a drunken frenzy in Dublin on New Year's Eve 2009 ? Defies belief really.
The level of on-going crime I hear about e.g. theft , burglary ,vandalism that never gets into the papers is staggering.It's almost regarded as the norm.people are living in fear and many are afraid to walk the streets in p in this republic of ours.
Add to that the littering , noise pollution , menacing road behaviour and general public rowdiness.
A pretty depressing picture all told.
Politics and the law not serving the interests and security of the ordinary citizen.

i can tell you its the same over here vubiant..drug dealers will get 18 yrs..yet a child molester will get 6mths..drug dealing i know is hated by the majority i myself believe in the legalisation of all drugs..dealers are giving there drugs to people who want it..children dont ask to be mistreated..the whole system needs looking at..i have now come to believe in the death penalty..after Manny years of being anti...i think in some cases life must mean life..and when eg..a policeman is killed in the line of duty ..then that person should face the death penalty..imo..its about priorities..keep drug addicts out of prison..and free the places up for animals that attack old people like you have highlighted..
