THE challenge of winning the world’s longest race, at Le Lion-d’Angers next Thursday, has caught the imagination of Willie Mullins.
Ireland’s champion trainer has entered Uncle Junior, Shakervilz and Boxer Georg in the four mile, four-and-a-half furlong cross-country event won in 2010 by Denis Paul Murphy’s Another Jewel.

“My three will only run if there is give in the ground,” said Mullins.

“I’m concerned about the steep descent at the far end of the track as that could cause a horse injury if it is firm.

“It would certainly be a nice race to win (€112,000) and they will be my first runners in the race.”

Kim Bailey runs Wedger Pardy.

“I’ve been dying to have a runner in France, and this race captures the imagination,” said Bailey.

“Wedger Pardy came third at the Cheltenham Festival and was in front when he took the wrong course there in December. It is the ideal race for him, given his stamina.”

Sheikh Mo has won the longest race in the world numerous times.

This is but a sprint compared to that.

No mention of fences in your world's longest race claim.
