Been a joke for ages and getting worse as time goes on,if you're having a small bet on an outsider you've a good chance of beating the odds otherwise forget it.

The tote has been a mechanical robber for many years. The quicker it gets the new boss in the better. It's just limping along on three legs.

the thing that annoys me most about the tote here is unlike in england when you do a placepot or jackpot you can see after each race what units are riding on each horse, but in ireland the placepot stops after the 2nd race and dosent show up to the last race, and with the pick 6 or jackpot you dont have a clue what units are going on each selection, there seems a complete lack of marketing been put into the toteover here,

Huddys - You can follow the units left, for the jackpot. The option is available, when you click on the 6th race. I agree that the place dividend is a disgrace. The take-out must be huge.

Does anyone bet on the tote these days ?  Used to be OK if you were having a small bet on an outsider  , but I have seen so many poor return dividends in ordinary races that I would not consider backing with them .

Were some of the quoted dividends at the Maze ?  Not sure how affiliated that setup is with the Southern Tote .

Doesn't seem to be available for the pick 6, which is ridiculous, considering they have a link for the pick 6 on the left navigation bar.

i play the tote for small money.
some value in the place market and mid ranged priced horses in big fields.
although its not the same now the book is open online.
i find a lot of money gets played right at the off to take all the value away, presumably online or management.
one i watched at down royal , sir ector , heavily backed to 3/1 fav , was paying 3/1 a place right to the off when it whoosed away down to 5/4
in the last that day , 13/8f returned 4/6 a place.

although when they take 25% or whatever it is then you dont have much chance!!!

i remember many yrs ago lookig at the tote prices in killarney.a 6/1 shot was 10s on tote.2 min to the off it was still 10s.i bkd it.it drifted to 8s and won.it paid 4/1 on tote..my last bet with them!!it seems every thing shortens at the off..can anyone tell me why this is?

I'd say the pools info has a delay and all the value seekers put in the late money using the earlier prices as a guide.

If you are only dealing with on-course punters, you might still get value, but if some onliner threw in 500+, dividend is banjaxed

Is there still a tote credit service ?  Used to be that its operation was not input until the off , so dividends were never as the pure cash betting indicated .

Reminds me of one of the tote operations I saw abroad , they obviously showed prospective dividends before the off based on no take out , and then deducted 20% plus off .  Took me one race to figure it out .  Sat on my hands the rest of the meeting , you cant win with a 20% plus take out , but the punters there persist in betting .

The Tote in Ireland has been losing money for years, its like the HRI a bloated organisation staffed by overpaid incompetents at the higher level.

there is value in certain bets on the tote.
but as said the real value goes just at the off.
ive been told the reason for this is that the online totals are not added until just before the off.
i watch this regular and i am convinced someone has access to the pools just at the off to take the value away.
too often ive seen really juicy bets being stripped to market prices at the off , the pattern of this suggests someone who knows what they are doing with the time to do it, if it was a mad rush online then the price would fluctuate above and below the market prices , however this is not the case.
the price will settle at just above market average almost as if someone knows how much to put in to the pool to adjust the price to a layed bet.
maybe its just coincidence and the pools get settled with online funds and this is the cause

I presume the reason someone with a hospital background was appointed was that the thing is terminally ill?

I had the misfortune of being involved in the previous selection process with these jokers and the whole episode was embarrassing. Brian Kavanagh in particular came out of it smelly of nothing but manure.

To be fair to Drydon Geary, I think he's done a fair job in horrifically difficult circumstances (and no, I don't know the guy at all)

Jade, the last day to apply fot the job was Wednesday 11th April.

Maybe they weren't satisfied with the applications recieved, as one would think a month would be long enough to deliberate over the candidates.
