OFFICIALS at Punchestown have called an 8am inspection before the final day of the five-day festival.

On Friday night the track was described as raceable, but after a weather-disrupted week and with further showers forecast, officials opted to take a cautious approach.

Richie Galway, Punchestown's racing manager, said: "The track has had a tough week and while it is perfectly raceable we want to be prudent and so will have an inspection in the morning.

"The forecast is for it to be dry tonight with possible showers tomorrow." Saturday's sixrace card starts on the banks course at 2.40, with the Gold Cup at 3.15.

Traditionally the big day of the week 'Ladies Day' at Punchestown drew the crowds once again.

There was in fact an increase in numbers through the gate this year with the crowd up 2033 to 27,219 from 25,186 in 2011.
With only five contests on the card the Tote aggregate was down from €897,967 last year to €601,734 this season.

The bookmakers were also down from €1,881,685 to €1,158,13
