How good could this horse be if it was with the likes of Willie Mullins?

They'd make you wonder sometimes. I backed him in Navan or Naas three years ago @ 20/1 in a bad handicap hurdle off a mark if around 95. Finished third but well held at the same time. I put a line through his National credentials after that run! Shows the difference fences make.
Fair play to them for taking their chance in the Ten Up anyway. If they hadn't things would have worked out a lot different. Very nice pot for small connections to collect. |

Fair play to the lads and they are going to have a cut at the sales again..........I hope they unearth another gem.
It's the same sometimes with greyhounds the big boys can hoover up the good stock from trials or schooling tracks but sometimes the small man/woman has their day. |

What can I say...
Unbelievable stuff yesterday... I'm delighted for everyone involved. You wouldn't meet a nicer bunch of lads. I intended on going to Fairyhouse but unfortunately could not go. Went up to the local last night to join in the celebrations. Great night was had, drink on the house ! Tom only has 5 horses in. It's great to see a small handler like him win a big pot. Also Andrew Thornton a gentleman. Aintree next year lads ;) Hon the parish. Hon Tats!!!! |

It's mind bogglin! Exactly. Their intentions were to run him in the ten up, not expecting him to do much but they had a valuable handicap later on in mind. Amazing how it panned out. Tom had been out of luck for years but still stuck at it. Great admiration for him. |

Tom worked in John Fowlers for years.

Just had a look at his runs there. It was the day he was 4th in a 3 mile hurdle in Naas. Finished third on his following run in Navan then over 2m4f. Looked pretty ordinary those days and even his mark going into the Ten Up didn't look to underestimate him.
Hopefully they get a great kick out of it anyway because the good days are few and far between especially when dealing in small numbers. |

What will he get for that dye think lads?, I'd say it would easily get him into something like next years Aintree National, but with a nice weight considering the quality of that race seems to be getting better all the time. Front two pulled a long way clear, but that often seems to be the way in the Irish National.

He'll be rated somewhere between 142-145 I would imagine

Tom worked in John Fowlers for years. He learned his trade with Noel Meade. Did he work in Fowlers? |

He was there for years riding out......around the time Andrew Coonan was amateur......The lads used to always say Gibney must come from money as himself and Coonan were let into the house for breakfast.......he lodged in the area for a while.

Never knew that...
I know he rode for the Pitmans for a couple of years. He knows his stuff. I'm delighted for him. |

Every wannabee jockey in our area spent time in Pitmans.........they paid buttons.
