nobody like Ruby, Willie, Tony, Dermot etc to call a genius, just a rookie trainer and jockey proving thats its horses that make the world of horse racing go round not humans, Tom Foley, The Bowe family, Cyril Griffith etc will testify to that.
But don't panic media I'm sure Aiden O'Brien will collect a few Group 0nes during the duration of the flat season and you can go back to using the word genius again forgetting that a race horse who can run faster than the rest just won a horse race.

The shock on Andrews face was a joy to behold, a did it really happen to me look on his face?, kudos to Tom, Andrew and all connections involved, one up for the little guy, high five!.

Why would they be beside themselves?? This is a much better story than one of the big trainers winning it. A horse they bought on the cheap, trained by a relatively unknown trainer and ridden by somebody claiming 3lbs.

"Fairytale at Fairyhouse" yes i'd say they are bisde themselves Plain

Premier its a catch all kind of thread, I bet none of the media stories carried the word genius?, for pig iron say it was Willie and Ruby who triumphed, I'm sure the word genius would have surfaced somewhere, and the Irish forum full to the gills with accolades, yeh?.

Yesterday was an example of why most of us love the NH.

The little guy can buy a horse in the hope that some day he might win a big race.

It's the stuff of dreams and it separates the NH from the flat imo.

This feat on top of Flemenstar's recent exploits makes the sport what it is.

Seriously what are you moaning about this time? You seem to be moaning that had a big trainer won he would have got loads of praise, well they didn't win it so your thread seems a bit pointless to me. Or are you complaining that there are not 25 threads congratulating connections?

The winner was a fairytale winner (tipped up by 2 on here, i think Monte Christo may have been 1), a great story and as said below it's why most love the NH game as the little guy can beat the big guy sometimes.

It seems I'm like a voodoo doll, no matter what I say somebody has to get a dig in, not one person started a thread congratulating the small time connections, if Allez Garde had won I'm sure you'd all be falling all over yourselves to be the first to tell us how Ruby is GOD!.

Premier take it or leave it I've a pretty black and white outlook on life, I don't suffer fools gladly, I'm years backing horses and I've disected it back to front and inside out and have come to the conclusion that most of what is excepted as fact in horse racing can be shot down in flames in an instant, yeh I've come to a very simple conclusion that its horses that win races not jockeys not trainers and none of them can come even close to the word genius when the abilty of a dumb animal usually decides your faith?.

Silver that was a dream result for racing yesterday. The media lapped it up and the HRI and ITM must have been creaming themselves because it allows them to sell the dream.

There isn't a jockey, trainers, owner, pundit or fan that would have begrudged them the victory.

In reply to monte christo and Flemenstar, here is a journeyman trainer with a good horse who is using his brain a bit like the Bowes, Cheltenham is not the be all end all there is plenty of similar big pots to be collected while the big trainers and owners are concentrating on the glory often using these races as a stepping stone, if Flemenstar had been trained by Willie and ridden by GOD the horse would have been sent off at prohibitive odds, how was Flemenstar allowed to go off at odds against?.

Punters are creatures of habit and will go for the tried and trusted.
Flemenstar is a cracking horse and the Caseys know this might be the only bite they get at the gold cup..........play safe and then travel over.

Its true gant, and bookmakers usually take the bait, a horse ridden by Ruby, Tony or Frankie, Ryan ,Kieren etc are usually priced up a lot shorter than the horses abilty deserves of course they ride plenty of favs anyway because they've the reputation, some great value to be got on horses with a similar level of form ridden and trained by the so called journeymen the one's not backed by powerful owners, comes back to what I'm saying the ability of the horse is paramount!.

Duck, I know the media were thrilled with the little guy story, It was my little dig at them for getting just a little carried away when Willie and Aiden train a big race winner, the accolades are usually more subdued when the little guy grabs the glory don't you think?, by that I mean these guys are not geniuses only lucky?.

Some fair points there silvergreaser.I was not having a pop at you by the way.

Speaking personally and i would imagine most on here look at a horse on it's merits rather than who trains/rides it.

If the bookies make an error in properly pricing up it's chances based on such info then it gives us a better chance to capitalise on them.

Flemenstar on Sunday being a case in point imo.

As regards the use of the word genius that is a word that's bandied about all too readily nowadays.

Vincent O'Brien was a genius imo.

I think you will find alot of the journey men have screwed up a few decent horses also.
A capable enough journey man trainer near me came across a decent 4 yo pointer a few years ago and the first thing he did was advise the lads to sell it or send it to Willie Mullins. The lads decided to leave the horse where he was and at least they had it insured.......poor gallop and his 16 yo daughter dumped off the horse one morning.

Good reputations are earned and rarely bought.

Vincent O'Brien a genius monte?, in one sense of the word yeh, he was certainly a visionary, he single handedly transformed European racing by recognising the durability, toughness and speed of the North American bred horses, where would John Magnier and Aiden be now without Vincents vision?.

I'm sure Vincent would turn in his grave to see so many Ballydoyle horses using the revered Curragh turf as a training ground, when Vincent sent them to the Curragh they won end of story! and if they didn't which was very rare they simply were not good enough.
Report Monte Christo April 10, 2012 1:49 PM BST
I believe he was yes.

The way he succeeded in both codes was unbelievable and his achievements imo will never be equalled let alone surpassed.

Of course that's just my humble opinion.
