I was in a certain bookmkers shop 2 weeks ago friday and there was a race from a place called Kranji . There was 6 runners and the market was priced up as follows -
1-16 , 80-1 ,80-1 , 125-1 ,250-1, 250-1 . I proceeded to put 20 ew on one of the 80-1 shots and took the prices  and he was 2nd . To my shock i was paid €420 at 1/4 the odds . Was  this a mistake , should it have been settled at tote odds ?

I dont know where the mistake was, firstly the prices are inaccurate, there is a chance the number of runners were inaccurate also, therefore the story is more than likely inaccurate.

Don,t know about Kranji to be honest maybe bookis rules if taking a board price everywhere?, book looks under-round,there was nothing to stop you doing the 5 outsiders ew at the above prices to be guaranteed a profit, strange one. you must be looking forward to the next meeting there.

The tote divedend only paid 4/5 9.00 . Here is the race just found it looks like divedends are to $5 -

That is exactly right pa lapsy, the example given is under round, they couldnt have bet like that in Kranji or anywhere else for that matter.

Thats it,a missing horse. Nearly certainly 2nd fav with an sp around 20/1

^  even 12 or 14/1 more likely.

Sorry there was 7 runners not 6 . But the 2nd shortest prices were 80-1 . I think that they may have compiled there odds based on the Tote divedends . As the figures to the left of the horses are the potential win dividends . Still looks to me like an under round ,as the next shortest horse was 50-1 , unless there is a minimum dividend in Kranji of 30c on a $5 bet .

I can only think its a very rare error on the prices being entered in the screen or whatever way it works, basically you are saying you got 80,s on the second fav(i don,t disbelieve you). The tote has him as second fav albeit at 50/1,slightly suspect of the tote prices as looking at the prices looks near 100% book without the usual deduction of nearly 30%

Swoop79...

I was in a Badblokes office and saw the exact same as you! It was gold cup day.. and the 2nd fav in race in question was definetly 80-1 working up to 300-1 the rag :) Didnt back anything in it but asked the cashier to check the SP's for me after the race to see was there something wrong with the show I had just seen. She was unable to find them there and then and I left shortly after.

The 1-16 shot won a 1/2length or so in a driving finish!!

there are often outreageously short odds in these places, the states too, regular 1/9 and 1/5 shots but much bigger on here!
