I was wondering what sort of films the members enjoy due to complete garbage being produced by Hollywood these days.

2 classic's I watched lately was the The French Connection(Gene Hackman great actor) and Unforgiven(Eastwood and Freeman) another brilliant film especially Clint Eastwood.

Watched Platoon with Charlie Sheen and numerous other good actors last night and another Classic film and great one track soundtrack.

Any obscure films that anyone have seen that are brilliant??

I love the old espionage films, especially Frederick Forsyth.  The day of the jackal,The Odessa file and The fourth protocol.  If you liked The french connection you will love these oldies.  There is a fantastic recent film called the warriors way which is a martial arts(samurai)/country and western style film that has some of the best cinematography you will ever see, it is a tale of dual revenge set in the wild west.

Once upon a time in america is a great shout.

Gettysburg & Gods and Generals are great films but require plenty of stamina.

Kelly's Heroes is worth watching and has a catchy theme tune.

Kingdom of Heaven is well worth watching as well imo.

Can anyone recommend a good Rom-Com?
Report rubyisgodinthesaddle March 24, 2012 8:48 PM GMT
I remember watching City of God that was a very good film.

About to watch The Longest Day 1962 about WW2.

Massive fan of Dicaprio, thought his performance in Shutter Island was Sublime also that Inception film was excellent if not hard to follow.

Thought the remake of  The Girl with The Dragon Tatoo to bring it to current day was the best film out since the above DiCaprio acts.

Really looking forward to Lincoln now at Xmas time with Daniel Day
Report oufies pal March 24, 2012 8:59 PM GMT
ruby, agree with you on dicaprio . thought he was brilliant in blood diamond. after seeing titanic i thought he was a young lad that might soon be forgotten and hard to take seriously as an actor, but how wrong i was about him. superb .

Completely agree re Blood Diamond, Catch me if you can was another brilliant effort, forgot about The Departed and also Gangs of New York.

Few Films coming out soon with him, His latest J Edgar I heard was poor enough but Eastwood went a bit wierd on that one.

I am trying to identify a film a friend saw many years ago. I can tell you that it is a black and white film so it must be at least 40 years old, he thinks it may be from the 50s or 60s. The main characters are a husband and wife and the wife's sister and they have a young son. The wife's sister is an interfering nuisance and she regularly clashes with the husband to such an extent that they hate each other. He thinks the husband may have been away for a long time and returned back to the home. He remembers one scene where the husband gives the son money to go to the cinema so he can cosy up to the wife. The husbands voice is what he describes as high pitched. He thinks the film is called somthing like "The Room at the top of the House" or somthing similar but he is not too sure and that could be completely wrong. Can anyone put a name to this film?
