Naas has earned the nickname 'The Punters' Graveyard', and there's a perception that horses find the track a difficult one to navigate - therefore shock results are more likely and plenty of favourites get turned over in the process.
The fact that there is a real graveyard situated across the road from the track adds colour to the story, but probably compounds the myth to a degree!

I think most Irish meetings a few weeks before what they deem as the Holy Grail can be called graveyards, Fairyhouse today no exception, Thurles midweek threw up a few pearlers too!.

The Naas myth is exaggerated, is it any more testing than most other raceourses on heavy ground?.
An old wives tale that should be put to bed, but of course its now part of folklore, and if you say black is white often enough you might just start to believe it!.

The opening day at Naas,in the early twenties, produced a host of shock results thus earning the nickname " punters graveyard " however my expierience is different,i love the place.Its a fair track with a stiff uphill finish,it has a reasonable sprint track in that at least it is straight and horses that win their bumpers there tend to be good.
I am sure some of the statiticians on here will come up with the figures but i would reckon it is no different than the other major tracks.

Naas is a about as fair a track as they come. Hardly ever a hardluck story there unless you consider a horse waivering and getting collared late on as one.

If I were to give a track the Graveyard tag then it would be the current Limerick track. When the going is heavy there it's often unnatural racing ground. Horses that go on heavy elsewhere often struggle. Some days you also have to be up with the pace and other days frontrunners are swept by very easily whole their would be no difference in the official description. It's also the coldest place in the world.

done the pick 6 with a roll over of 34k stil going after the 1st leg,rory anna sportsmaster in the next,rathlin shot from the hip 3rd race,felix young touch back 4th,tranquil sea and seabass 5th race,castle wings one in a milan our victoria and milano in the last,have it to 50cent,best of luck to all!!

Once again a marvellous crowd turned up for a great day's fare at the popular Kidare venue. By the way there is a graveyard that was once part of the track. The one on the opposite site is relatively new.

Race 1) Play The Market 7/2f. Didn't get to see this as I was a bit late. Good to see the new pensioner Mrs H ( 65 on the RP birthday's list, doesn't look a day older than 50)strike with a well backed winner (9/2am)

Race 2) Idarah 14/1 A surprise here but not to Norn Iron who tipped it up. In the van all the way in a race which they all finished in a heap to the delight of the handicapper. The fav Sportsmaster (7/4) stayed on once paced into 3rd. Four year old's always struggle in these older age group handicaps.

Race 3) Rathlin 4/5f. A procession for this one who will stay at home this year.

Race 4) Felix Younger 2/1f. Another very easy winner for the top combo Mullins and Walsh.

Race 5) Sea Bass 5/4f. Ruby had a much tougher battle here as he overcame the flattering Zaarito close home. It will be something else if he can now go from 2 miles up to 4.5 miles of the Aintree National.

Race 6) Paddy Pub 14/1. The handicapper was the winner again as Paddy Pub prominent all the way held the flattering One In a Milan (11/4) and the flying Castle Wings.

Race 7) Rory O'Moore 100/30. As usual made all but didn't set a mad pace as he had done before. It looked like the crazy fav The Paparrazi Kid (2/5f) would scoot home early in the straight until the winner rallied. His form with Gordon Elliott's Don Cossack was a street ahead of what the fav had achieved.
