Monte Christo answered Q4 with Fortina who won the Gold Cup in 1947 and sired the 1968 winner Fort Leney,a brilliant answer so deserving of a bonus point.

Sunstar is also a flower wildman. The scoring does not matter much though. I am just interested in finding another one or 2.
Report Distant View January 31, 2012 9:06 PM GMT
Incredible stuff on Fortina. The last thing I would expect is that a Gold Cup winner would be a sire.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 31, 2012 9:08 PM GMT
Ardross a great battler but not the answer.
I have no idea who Harry Baker is,definitely not the answer but could you explain.
I broke the cardinal rule with Q11 as there is more than one answer.
Fortina was a top sire,he also sired Fortria amongst many others
Report Distant View January 31, 2012 9:11 PM GMT
If it was a battle rather than battler that won the Gallinule, then it would be the Vincent O'Brien trained Inkerman?
Report wildmanfromborneo January 31, 2012 9:15 PM GMT
Well done Distant View.Inkerman a famous battle in the Crimean war and a Gallinule winner and as you correctly say trained by Vincent O`Brien.
I didn`t realise Sunstar was a flower but accept your word for it,you are now joint leader.

Jockey Harry Barker recorded the amazing feat of finishing second in both the Grand National and the Derby. He rode Aesop at Aintree and Ravensbury at Epsom Downs.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 31, 2012 9:21 PM GMT
No,i thought this was the easiest question in the quiz but then i thought Q12 was the hardest.
Thank you dj876 not as amazing as you think as there were many jockeys who rode under both rules down the years, however this is a horse with a name meaning the same thing.
Report Distant View January 31, 2012 9:23 PM GMT
Ok I was thinking of the Rock as Fergie got him free of charge. Time to think again.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 31, 2012 9:24 PM GMT

Rock Of Gibralter a great answer all the same.

Again flawed thinking from me.

The Lighthouse was a skyscraper that was due to be built in the Dubai Marina but the plans were shelved. Around the same time the Meydan City project with a marina and a racecourse was given the go ahead. Back to square one again!.

Report wildmanfromborneo February 1, 2012 5:32 PM GMT
I thought it was like the naps competition and docked you a point for no selection,it has been rectified.
To speed things up i will give some clues and will start with Q1
The new clue is...News for the cardinal points and more than half an anagram.

Q1 Norton's Coin ?

Q7 The Clapton is Eric Clapton and the answer is an English trainer also an anagram.
Q13 A simple anagram
Q19 Another anagram
Q22 Yet another anagram
Q24 Two different horses named after the same feature in the wee county

An interesting aside to this question was the answer Harry Barker who apparently was runner up in both races as a jockey in the 1890s but much more recently the great Willie Robinson was second in the 1958 Derby on Paddys Point and won the 1964 Grand National on Team Spirit.

The World Hurdle is the connection between 13 and 19.
