Which job would a jockey prefer to have? The retainer with Gigginstown or the pick of the Willie Mullins and Paul Nicholls' stables.
I don't think there would have been a question here a few years ago, but with the rate of improvement in O'Leary's string and his relatively bottomless pit of money, I wonder if going forward they are the guys you'd want to be attached to.
Nicholls and mullins must be feeling the recessional pinch to some extent? or is it just the smaller trainers, Mullins has said he is buying fewer these times.
what do you think lads? certainly in Ireland, I think we may see the rise of Gigginstown as a threat to the Mullins hegemony, even though he trains for them too.

Gigginstown will dominate Chase's in Ireland starting from this year for many many many years to come.
Mullins has unreal quality and is getting some of the best from Rich Ricci.
Irish Racing NH is in a great place at the moment and the best I can remember in every since Moscow Flyer and Istabraq.

Isn't it ironic when the economy is in the Pits, Irish NH is seen at its strongest. It just beautiful to look at the Leapardstown card in a few days time. I never seen such a line up in all my life.
Remember 4-5 years ago with Tyne Again and Mossbank and constantly depending on Harchinbald to liven the place up.
JESUS WE ARE LUCKY....LET THE GOOD DAYS CONTINUE AND I THINK LAST YEAR AT THE FESTIVAL IS JUST THE START OF A GREAT DECADE FOR IRISH NH.

yeah it is coming back, bar Rubi Light, I hope it is a few years before we have to suffer a Durkan like the other weeks.
Without a doubt I'd take the Ruby situation,those Trainers (Nicholls & Mullins) have proved themselves season after season and whilst the Giggy gig is a nice cherry job I wouldn't think it would compare.
Ruby's gig any day - Giggi have some cracking horses but there just isn't the quality that Ruby will have to choose from come Cheltenham.
Think of the various dilemmas in the Championship races - he'll have a top ride in the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase, Gold Cup, World Hurdle, Mares Hurdle and Bumper on top of the various novice races and tbh I struggle to see what Giggi will have to run in at least four of those races at the moment.
Add that to the day to day winners that Walsh can get on either in Ireland or in the UK and the prize money side of things he could get riding at Leopardstown for Mullins over Christmas and at Auteuil for the same trainer in May/June and he's in the best position purely from a rides point of view.
Obviously a lot depends on their personal circumstances and other perks of riding for their respective employers.

But if Gigginstown keep improving at the rate they are, won't they eventually overtake Mullins, especially in the most prestigious area of all, staying chases.

However many big owners Nicholls and Mullins have, surely they have noone like MOL whose patronage of racing seems relatively assured in a time where big owners might be proving harder to find.
Bottom line is that in the coming years at Ptps around Ireland, if there is a really nice horse there and O'leary wants him, he will have him. I think he has upped his game and his level of investment from recent track evidence.
