Agree - these old jaspers have been around the block once too often and are gone totally stale . New blood badly needed ....presenter and panel.

On a night in what should have been good fun, they were very stale.

No need to change it cos we're all still watching

I thought they should have dwelt more on the midfield issue, although I was in the pub. Suppose it was a case of if we sign Sneijder, javi Martinez or Modric, we probably still won't beat Barcelona, whereas we could probably get away with winning the league without a midfield anyway. that was the mindset, they are paying for it now.

No matter who they signed they weren't gonna win the CL this year, but I think they will have missed a trick if they don't bid quick for that Shaquiri lad, saw him at the Euro 21's in the Summer and he has it all except a right foot. He must be sign because although not an orthodox central midfielder, he has that explosiveness and vision combined with technique that is so potent. he reminds me a little of Silva.

The likes of Ozil, Khedira, Silva, Matta, Sneijder and a few more have all been available in recent times, more than a few for very reasonable prices, Ferguson really has no excuse for the chronic lack of creativity. Ashley young is a fine player, but maybe that money would have been better invested in a central or creative midfielder.

Dunphy is horrific, spent all last season sledging barcelona when everyone else cottened on about 5 years ago when they had ronaldinho, Eto'o, Deco a young Messi and Xavi with Iniesta waiting in the wings, infuriating for people that follow the sport properly, the least these boys could do was keep up ffs

Watched some of the post-match stuff last night and was struck by how old they all looked.

What is with RTE that they won't let people retire?

If ITV was run the same way Saint and Greavsie would still be doing the football.
Report irishro December 8, 2011 3:50 PM GMT
In fairness however bad RTE might be they are still superior to ITV. Chiles and Tydlesdey were an embarrassment last night.
Souness has been missed since Sky have seemed to nab him full time. He broke up the cosy cartel on the RTE panel and added a bit more knowledge. Having said that his stint on RTE was the making of him. He was as bland as the rest of them on sky in his pre-RTE days.
Report neill d December 8, 2011 4:58 PM GMT
Yep Souness was a miss and yes the RTE panel is still ahead of its bland cohorts accross the water.

Brady was out of order what he said about Man City last night. He said it was woeful for a club that spent that big to be gone out of the CL before the knock out stages.
Basically it came down to not beating Napoli at home on Matchday 1. Tevez was very much a hindrance at that stage.

Come Sunday week at 4 10pm I hope Man City just hammer his Arsenal and shut him up.
Report irishro December 8, 2011 7:07 PM GMT
Brady was entitled to make that point. With the money City have spent in last few seasons they should have got out of that group. Villareal are a shadow of seasons past so they were always going to struggle but City still should have had way too much for Napoli. They are hardly Champion league stalwarts and the Italian league is still well behind the Premiership.
As for Tevez he was only a sub in that game and they should have had enough with Aguero, Dzeko, Silva to beat them at home. City were lucky to be even still alive last night with that last minute goal v Villareal. That is woeful for a team worth £100s of millions.

I'll try & throw a few comments in here......
Bill and the panel resembled 'oul relations who turn up in yer house at Xmas - whether you like it or not. They still turn up in your house and you listen to them.

They've never stopped moaning about the current manager who in fairness has got us into Euro 2012, never stopped. Do they remember the Charlton years and the terrible football that got us results....? Only 'Eamo' at that stage usta moan at Jack. Oh Eamo btw usta love the 'Irish-born' players, I noticed it. Now most the team are Irish-born... Maybe it is time for new blood, but we've had Kenny Cunningham and a few more.

I'll give Bill and Co something, I do like them overall and the set-up, even if one disagrees with them.

And that in a station with very suspect sports coverage, the TV main news coverage is so BAD (embarrassingly bad) and they get Eur160 per household.

(One August evening this year with two - not one but two - Aertricity  League teams in European action, NO result was given yet they had two sports stories in the main news.)
Report Cmon the Town December 8, 2011 8:55 PM GMT
Oops, I've made a comment below, the wording is incorrect.

What a sentence below should have said is that the main 9pm TV news sports coverage is particularly bad.
