Johnjoe or John Francombe?
By:
Distant View
When: 02 Dec 11 00:13
It would not be Francome anyway. He did not have any winners on the first 2 days before he won the Gold Cup in April.

Not sure what the right answer is though.

Distant View you are almost there, the Thursday was called off due to snow so only the 2 days counted.
Who rode the most impressive winner of that festival?
By:
Distant View
When: 02 Dec 11 00:18
Tommy Carmody could be one of them.

Do we include the 3rd day in April as part of the festival? From memory it did not count as I don't think all of the races were rescheduled and just the Gold Cup was included on the April card.

Boots Madden & Tommy Carmody

Boots rode him didn't he?
By:

When: 02 Dec 11 00:24
Those festivals were before my time and I would only remember the main races rather than handicaps.

Back then it would be the 2 novice hurdles, 2 novice chases, 3 championship races and the odd hunter chase winner.

The Racing UK footage during a prolonged period of abandoned meetings last year or the year before was excellent. Chinrullah and Tied Cottage were serious standing dishes around this time.

Well done to both of ye.
Tommy Carmody rode the first 2 winners on the Tuesday.Boots Madden had a bad first day got beaten into second by Mr Kildare on Flame Gun and then sunk the whole Irish nation when his odds on favourite Jack Of Trumps fell in the National Hunt chase, think The late John Fowler won it.Madden won the first on the Wednesday with the brilliant Golden Cygnet and then won the Stayers on the Novice Flame Gun at a big price.
