Same old same old, gold cup winner, likened it to Denman. Not worth 2 shillings of course the same as 99% of them big slow heaps of rubbish. The pointers to follow on the Gigginstown thread are a motley bunch, bar make your mark, not a horse among the rest of them combined.

How much did you lose? Nicholls said in his stable tour they will only be filling in this year over hurdles.

123 winners from points on the track in the month of November including ten or so graded winners. I always say give them a year in England and see what they have done at the end of the season. I remember someone saying on here a few years ago after one run in a bumper that Mr. Cracker was useless like most of them p2p winners. He has turned out to be one of the very few horses to win back what he cost and a fair chunk if not all of his training fee's.

Nicholls ain't too worried about a little novice hurdle in Hereford either.

Ya he aint too worried about a little hurdle in hereford, and if he wasnt as slow as a boat he wouldnt have even been brought there in the first place, let alone be 4/1 in a race where he was receiving 7lb from winners.I dont know what they conned the poor guy that owns it for but you can guarantee he's scratching his head tonight.

If you had the owners money you'd burn your own. Don't worry yourself with feeling sorry for them.

I am not worried in the slightest allduckornodinner,i think its rather funny that big businessmen can be so gullible to be conned by the typical pointing half bred(thats the vendor).I dont see too many people bringing up the thread saying that this thing was the next Denman either, just the usual hugely wild claims and for the one in 50 times they are actually right, the other 49 get consigned to the bin.

Declan Phelan mentioned Denman comparisons (mainly due to the fact that they were both hobdayed and were going to ditcheat) but in fairness he is liable for exaggeration. The horse was very impressive in his win and I have little doubt that he will make up into a good chaser in time. More than a few nicholls ex pointers have taken a season to settle in over there before showing improved form in the past.

Theres only one Gold Cup winner every year so obviously they can't all make the grade but people (particularly on here) are always quick to knock horses. A forumite that you would be familiar with was cribbing about JP wasting money on Formidableopponent after his debut when a blind man could see that he'd improve for the run. How good he'll be I don't know but he's certainly gone the right way since. Same fella was laughing at the thought that Ger Hourigan gave a strong recommendation for a horse that was subsequently bought by Giggy after winning in Lisronagh. What would he have to know what a good horse was? Same horse won his bumper on debut by 15 lengths.

I scratch my head with these pointers

Dramatic Duke - Looked a machine when it won, comes out in a weak looking huntingdon bumper and well stuffed

Brindisi Breeze - looked the good thing of all good things in Musselburgh...desperate and I mean desperate looking race and still beaten

The best though.....Anyone remember a mare called River Shanakill, sold for a huge sum to Wylies....never ever sighted....
ever like. That was surely the dud-est purchase of all time!!

Looking coldly at the available evidence suggests this horse had a lot to prove today:

Beaten by the subsequently disappointing Drawn N Drank on debut
Form of his winning maiden very poor
Two half-sisters never ran and 2007 gelding by Alderbrook (Dunraven Prince) has been disappointing
Costello was measured enough in his post-race assessment at Dromahane
Signals from Nicholls weren't promising

Plenty of reasons to avoid him today and into the future but as to why the glee on his demise today......that escapes me

Avenging Ace was disappointing too last Sunday. A lot of these pointers need time to settle into their new surroundings. Big change going from small yards here to 100 plus box yards in England. Different regimes and such. Over the years plenty haven't trained on as they were pushed too hard and didn't settle in. Then of course you have the fact that many of them were trained to the minute for their maiden and wouldn't be much cop.

Suprised Brinsdi Breeze didn't win though it was a **** of a race from what I heard. Will reserve judgement til I see him over hurdles. Was disappointed Dramatic Duke didn't win as I though he was a moral and punted accordingly. Assumed Jonjo had him sent off he'd head already given his pre-race antics given that he'd break iron. He's entered up again there lately so I would be hoping for some improvement.

Final Gift was lockjawed on his debut FW and won well nto. Despite not beating anything of note it was the manner of his victory that impressed. He showed plenty of quality and I still maintain that he'll make up into a decent horse in time.

Yeah to be fair Final Gift will come into his over fences in time, I wouldnt be unduly worried after today

You make a good point there...some of these boys that have these horses are very good operators, not a lot left to work on when they move on....

What did you make of the sale of Better Than Conan Duck? Overpriced?

Disappointed DD didn't win at Huntingdon - was there that day and he looked plenty fit enough though not the biggest.

As for people spending tons of money - they have it to spend so why not, there are bargains to be had out there and also people getting stitched up.

The value is probably gone from most Irish pointers now and the English ones will be where the value is - problem with the latter though is people won't sell for tuppence and they want the Irish prices for them.

Jessica Westwood had a nice enough Maiden winner last season over here - looked a useful horse if a little too big if that's possible, went to the sales after his Maiden win and made 30kish which on what he'd done I'd have snapped up in a flash before being beaten in a winners race and running third to a horse now with Paul Nicholls and another youngster when conceding weight.  Sadly broke down in that race but there'll be others out there - Restless Harry started out in UK points whilst there have been a few useful horses come out of last years Maiden's - Hazy Tom and Harry The Viking for example.

Plenty of these never live up to their potential or hype.

Looking at the form of The Begrudger now, it is hard to believe that he was hailed as a top class horse when he arrived at Ditcheat.

To be fair now plenty of expensive french horses, horses off the flat have never made it either...

Still probably balances it out in favour of Irish pointers imo

BW I didn't hear what he made. Whatever it was anyway it was probably too much. Wouldn't be a great fan of it.

I was in Dromahane that day it made it's debut and I thought Moyalif had it well in it's pocket. Hydes had to do all the donkey work and i'd forgive it for getting a little tired towards the end but still boxed on well to fend off Better Than Conan. Judging by the market support for the second horse he was obviously shown plenty at home but I wouldn't personally have been all that taken with him.

There were some useful performances in Boulta this weekend with at least one horse that will make well into the six figures at the Brightwells sale next week. The maidens this weekend should also produce a few wild cards for said sale.

Tom Keatings looked real good. Could have went around again, interesting to watch him from here

Conan made in and around 65
By:

When: 30 Nov 11 23:52
Keatings could have been bought for 60 last season (though that looked plenty at the time). Was very impressive even if he was also on the shop window and his horses don't often lack for fitness. Will make a fortune anyway. Hattrick  Harry and Bowes Pierre winner looked decent too though the latter will probably be knocked for the sire.

Thats a grand twist for him anyway from what I can see. Wouldn't like to have liked to have been landed with him for that money anyway.

Never once have I said he hasn't a clue,it's the people that go to these things regularly that don't have a clue, continually eulogising about rubbish horses .Considering the amount of nags that run at these things, the amount of winners is fairly meagre to say the least.Sunday after Sunday there is about 40 races run with about half a dozen so called Cheltenham winners unearthed.Phelan's list of pointers to follow sums up the typical pointing man,one possibly correct spot out of about a dozen attempts.

Re: Final Gift..........
"A hobdayed five year old and easy winner of a maiden-sounds like Denman-and yes he could be another Denman and possibly the last star the late Tom Costello purchased prior to his passing from this world.
Dromahane is the number one point track in Ireland, hosting up to six meets a year.
I have not witnessed an easier winner of a maiden than this fellow when successful in April: he slammed a maximum field without breaking sweat.
Nicholls has stocked heavy for the new season with irish pointers-this bay is the one to note as the potential Gold Cup horse amongst them. A beautiful mover,good-good to soft will suit him best and that old cliché applies to him "anything he does over hurdles will be a bonus" because when he starts his chasing career, the sky is the limit." - Irish point expert Declan Phelan.

The answers elude me. Are there violent Muslims? Yes. Are there misogynistic Muslims? Yes. Are there violent Christians, Jews and atheists? Yes. Are there misogynistic Christians, Jews and atheists? Yes. So why aren't those groups as misunderstood and vilified as Islam? Is the answer that you are racist and have a deep rooted prejudice against my Muslim brothers & Sisters? I fear this may be the case, i want you to think about your answer and choose your words very carefully as my legal team are on standby.
