I was racking my brain trying to remember what good judge told us about Mount Benbulben,he had been to a point to point in Tinahely and reported back he had seen a champion.Could it have been Mincer/Robo no never been to a race meeting never mind a point to point,Bigwillystyle is from around there but can`t be him as he would have been on preening and screaming about how good he is,how about Bobbybocala unlikely his only selection here was an 8/13 cert in Kempton[beaten of course] but it wasn`t his fault it was the trainers[he knows people in high places] maybe TheGalwayman but again this silver spooned university educated gentleman is too terrified to give an opinion.
Then it came to me he had to be a gambler[a man that bets with real money] a good judge to spot the potential and a regular racegoer,yes the much missed Workrider.I hope you had a large bet on it and hope all your friends in England followed you in because you told them all on your trip to Fontwell,even when you are not here you are giving winners.

Hope Workrider made a killing today.
Didn't take any interest in the race but even I must admit that 5/2 looks good now even if he lost.

See the trainer mentioned afterwards him staying 3m, so you are still guessing if it's Neptune or Albert Bartlett if you fancy an Ante Post bet, stamina in abundance it seems.
Workrider rules.....Mount Ben won aP2P so obviously stays and thats what got him home in front 2day....some chasing prospect delighted for Barry O Connell he deserves a good one ........
Princess D'Anjou was the first to put it up here as one to follow, prior to his first run under rules at Down Royal.

250 for mt benbulben absolute madness. he jumped badly when 2nd at dromahane than won a modest race at tinahely and has done well in the bumper scene, ought to have won at down royal. however to pay this figure you expect a grade 1 horse, that he is not..
OK today was only a G2 but few would argue he's a G1 in the making...

I wouldn`t want to take anything away from Princess D`Anjou because he is in the Keen Leader class in race analysis and always has something interesting to say.

Thanks Wildman/RY - KL is right far more frequently than he's wrong and it was WR who mentioned the engine the horse had having demolished half of Tinahely on his way to victory as the one horse from that day who could have a big future under rules.

I suppose the one difference that may apply here and be very revealing re-the big price tag and that is when did Barry O C spend the cash.....my recollection of the sale is that BoC bought after the bumpers.....so he had better position to buy from than those that are bought after winning a P2P and have no park runs... bit like Avenging Ace today for DON McCain bought at a sale direct from the P2P's Avenging Ace cost 120k sterling and would he make it tonight ....now he will surely improve for McCain as he is a fine trainer....btw he cossts 12k a yr to have a horse in his stable.....not dear is it ?

These were workrider's comments after the meeting, which look to be precisely what PF referred to earlier. He may well have said something additional but I cannot recall it.

ishlana ,who ran in snatches , was up there early , dropped back on 2nd circuit and finished really well ... doc hollywood .... well back for most of the way made a horrible mistake and eventually paid the penalty before coming down at the last and was remounted ..... the horse that i really have to take from this meeting is mount benbulben .... very very keen early ... made a hash of most of the fences ...yet won pulling double ....

It was a very good call b y both posters. He looks a seriously good horse, i'm still gutted over the Down Royal defeat having got the 33s
but he looks like he is a grade 1 performer.

Don`t wish to be pedantic but to me there is a world of difference between what PF said and what you have shown.
listen i don't want to take any credit away from Workrider, as i said it was a very good call and he was spot on about the horse.

He said he was the horse to take from the meeting and won pulling double (against point to point horses)despite making a hash of the fences. PF said that he could recall something along the lines of having a big engine, which is pretty much what workrider said.
He said he was one to follow.
There is no mention of champion in his post, so to say he said a lot more than what PF said is wrong. It was a good spot all the same as this type of comment did not appear in the Wednesday ptp pullout or p2p.ie from what I recall.

I was tipped him for that Down Royal event but I had not done my homework and ignored the advice. To pick up Rebel Fitz in the manner he did was very impressive.

I do things from memory and that was my recollection,he did by the way post about this horse on other threads.Your first post seemed grudging in that you never mentioned that he said it was the horse to take out of the meeting and that he still won pulling double but then maybe you just used your memory too.
I said he said something along those lines, i'm sorry it was not word for word, i brought the thread back to the top, see what SatelliteFlight posted on the thread. You where the one that tried to correct me but what you then posted that he said was fabricated.

Why would i be begruding him the praise for tipping the horse? I never would of backed the horse at Down Royal if it was not for his comments and i have many times said what a good call it was.

Yeah DV i was very impressed with him today, thought Ruby may have nicked the race a bit on Rebel Fitz when he got a few lengths clear between the last 2 but he really picked up after the last responding to Condon's urgings.
That lad of ours was electric at the traps again last night!

He can run though alright, just hope he gets the hang of trapping sometime. Couldn't believe that lad won the race, i was in there on a Tuesday morning when he trialled, stood there watching it with Pascal Taggart and Wayne McCarthy and they where saying Fraser thought he was a right good dog. Ran very well in the trial on a slow track but i'd got a pain in my ass backing him. think he won just to spite me

Yes, he can run although he does it in the 2nd half of the race and will be better over further. He was a lot closer after the line than anytime during the race. He will improve on the run again and over a trip, but he will make things hard for himself if he keeps coming out like that. Eden Rumble heads my list of hugely disappointing dogs over the past few months as he has not progressed at all. I will let the thread get back to MB from now on.
Forget that comment. I watched that Waterford run again and he has a future in that sphere. He just showed little last night.

Looks like he needs 750y now, i thought he could be a right good dog over 525 and 550 but i'd say he has been slightly disappointing but as you said he could be pretty useful over 6 bends

The thread title is a rhetorical question,the rest of it is a tribute to a fallen colleague.
I've no doubt workrider backed that horse today, just a vibe. Well done Princesse D'anjou in flagging him up as well, I'd only one bet, Mick Winters in the Bumper but i wish i'd had a cut at that yoke in the troytown as well, yknow when ya just know, like that McManus horse at Newbury on Friday in the novice hurdle, 7/2 in a racewhere Hobbs and Henderson have unexposed fancied types, twas clearly Jonjo's best novice hurdler, just another where I've to grit my teeth and hope the decision making will come with experience.

I've no data on his record overall, but from my perspective, he was always worth reading on racing, especially since he went racing regularly, there was a period there in late spring to late summer where I'm sure the selections he put up were profitable, I don't want to get into personal stuff, but just my oppinion. I always think that a fella should have as much information as he could before making up his mind on a bet and a view from the paddock was valuable to me. What was the name of the Montjeu 2yo colt that he followed but eventually turned against, that was interesting reading to me.
He has not gone broke and that is not the reason he is no longer posting on here

It would be idiotic if the very game at which he was supposed to be the all-seeing oracle at, lead to him having to live in a bus shelter.
I don`t know about living in a bus shelter but from what i could gather he was on constant golfing trips,racing trips and football trips i think he managed to squeeze in two trips to the sun.It was this idyllic life style that enraged the cowardly fantasists who harried him off here.
